The House Hunt Begins
Tomorrow afternoon we’re going to look at a house.
Now, the chances of us actually being able to BUY this house are pretty slim, for a variety of reasons. (So, naturally I’m trying not to get attached. You know, like I did last time?) The fact that we’ve reached the stage of actually going to view the houses we like, rather than just obsessing over them on the internet, and maybe driving by like stalkers a couple of times a week, however, means that we’re starting to get more serious about our bid to move. In fact, yesterday an estate agent came round to poke round our existing house and give us an idea of what we might be able to sell it for (“I take it your business has something to do with shoes?” he asked when he walked into the office…), so hopefully we will buy A house at some point, if not the one we’re seeing tomorrow.
That means we need to budget. And by “we”, I mean “I”. Terry’s actually pretty good at budgeting, but me? Well, I like the shoes and the dresses. Also the trousers and the sweaters, and OMGTHESKIRTS. For the next few weeks at least, though, I will be turning my back on frivolous things. Well, most of them, anyway. And technically, that shouldn’t be all that difficult. I mean, I have a LOT of clothes already. And I’m extremely lucky in that I have a couple of very generous sponsors who send me shoes every month so at least I know I’ll never go barefoot. At the same time, though, I have a job which involves me going through a long list of fashion websites every morning and then writing about the things I find on them. Things which very often end up on my wish list, and sometimes make the leap from there to my closet. Uh-oh.
It’s not like I can just go cold-turkey and avoid temptation altogether, then, is what I’m saying. And honestly, I expect I’ll feel a bit like an alcoholic working in a brewery. But it’s a very first-world kind of problem to have, and it’s only a temporary one. And although it’ll probably make my outfit posts duller than usual for a while (There are only so many ways you can “re-mix” a dress, I find. Most of them just involve “wearing it with a different pair of shoes than last time” which means you end up with, well, the same dress, but with different shoes, as opposed to a WHOLE! NEW! LOOK!), it’s a problem I’m very lucky to have, so I hope you’ll bear with me while I show that you that same dress for the 111th time.
Honestly, I’m just glad I managed to find THAT H&M skirt in my size BEFORE this all happened. And, of course, that I spent the winter buying mostly summer stuff…

Another VW? 😀

I know it’s totally unfashionable but I really have no problem with people wearing stuff more than once it’s what I do after all and I do love seeing your outfit posts they’re seriously fabulous!
Also good luck with the housing search hopefully you can get a bit of luck from the leprechauns today! xxx
Alison
Good luck on the house hunting, hope you find one with large enough shoe storage!

I’m crossing my fingers that you and Terry will find your dream house really soon, hopefully this one! So exciting!
And I totally understand what you mean about the troubles with remixing, when you’re used to wearing dresses and heels. Remixing with my wardrobe also means just wearing the same dress with a different pair of shoes, and possible a matching belt and/or cardigan. (and in Winter, I try different coloured tights as well) Still, when the dresses and the heels are as gorgeous as yours, I see no problem with that. 😉

I have to admit, I sometimes don’t even bother with different shoes… if I think one particular pair works best with a particular dress, I have a really hard time convincing myself to wear a pair I like less, just for the sake of being different: I’m a bad fashion blogger, I think 😉
Erika
I have been in the house hunting boat, it is fun, but also very overwhelming. Good luck with it. You are a great fashion blogger! Sometimes, I think it’s a different dress all together the way you have ‘season-ed’ it up! I have yet to see a ‘dull’ outfit from you. 🙂

Good luck with the viewing, even if it isn’t the right house for you it’s always fun to have a nosey around other people’s homes isn’t it. I assume that’s why things like Grand Designs and Location Location Location were so popular!
aunt fiona
good luck with the house, hope it works out for you both. you seem to have more snow than us weird. you should have me work the deal for you, i enjoy that part, uncle jerry not so much, he just leaves all that stuff up to me. good luck xxx

Good luck with finding your dream house! It must be really exciting…
I know what you mean when you say it’s difficult to re-mix a dress into a whole new outfit. And I too tend to wear a particular dress with the same shoes I wore it with the last time, and even a whole outfit I’ve worn again in the past. If I like the combination, why not wear it again.
I’m already your follower on Bloglovin’ and thank you SO much for following me too there. 🙂

Already switched you to my bloglovin’. Just couldn’t fathom missing a post…and it will be summer when google reader is dumped…your finest hours, yes?
I come as much for the chat, as for the fashion; so whichever way you work your dresses, it’s all good for me.

I’m very excited for you about your house hunting. I love house hunting, and have to admit that I was a little sad when we didn’t need to do it any more because we found our Dream House. Seriously, I would have my house’s babies (except, instead, I will be using it to house my babies/expanding collection of glittery reindeer). I know the main reason I loved house hunting though; because I’m incredibly nosey and like snooping through people’s stuff. Are there any ways apart from house hunting that it’s acceptable to do that?! xx
Amber
You can always still look at them online – I have to admit, I occasionally do that anyway, even when I’m NOT looking to buy: it’s completely fascinating. I do find it horribly awkward looking around people’s homes when the people themselves are actually there, though, so I’m actually glad the one we’re seeing tomorrow is currently empty- makes it that bit easier to have a good look around!
Maddie
is your blog title inspired by the Matchbox 20 song? 🙂
Amber
It’s a line from it, yes…

Firstly: Hey Amber! It’s been ages! (I’m tied up in uni work & have been really bad with blogging and/or reading blogs) Nice to see you again:)
Second: why are you moving/ thinking of moving? Are you looking for something bigger? Or is it the location? I’m currently on the house/apartment hunt as well (but I’m currently renting so I want to move so that I won’t pay rent anymore – because paying a mortgage is so much more fun, right…), but it’s really difficult here cause everything is SO RIDICULOUSLY overpriced it’s just infuriating.
Anyways, best of luck to you!
Amber
It’s a bit of both, I guess – we’d like more space and a change of location!

So disappointed to know about GFC…following you on bloglovin 🙂 Would love it if you do the same!

Good luck with your house hunt. I am moving in July which is both exciting and stressful! I dreading packing everything up and carting across the city! I love looking for new houses, I can spent hours on rightmove just seeing what I can afford to actually buy once I’ve saved up for a deposit for a mortgage.
I have issues remixing outfits because I wear dresses like 95% of the time, it’s hard to remix unlike with skirts/trousers/tops where you can mix and match. But what’s a girl to do?

Amber
Oh gosh, me too… I feel like I spend most of my free time poring over Zoopla and Right Move at the moment, mostly looking at houses that are totally out of budget, but which are just amazing! We can dream 🙂

1) I love the song you took this title from
2) when I saw that dress on DP I betted with myself you would buy it, because it has Amber written all over it
3) Good luck with the house! Buying property is a pain.

Amber,
I’m crazy about Vivienne Westwood’s Melissa shoes! I’m dying to get my hands on some plastic wedges myself.
