Three Things Friday

I’m not gonna lie: I’ve had to dig pretty damn deep to find three positive things to tell you about this week.

It’s not that it’s been a particularly bad week, either: it’s just… well, I had the cold/flu/whatever that was. And I am really, really bad at having the cold/flu/whatever. Good at getting the cold obviously, as you can probably tell from my constant whining about it, but dealing with the cold? Nah, not so much. Other people seem to be able to just soldier on regardless when they’re sick, but whenever I get the cold, I always seem to wake up feeling like I actually died in the night, but my brain hasn’t quite realised it yet, a bit like Professor Binns, in Harry Potter. And it’s not easy to motive yourself to power through the working week when you suspect you might technically be dead, is it?

(Also, Terry DID end up catching it too, so ours has been a house of pain for the past two weeks. Awesome!)

Anyway, I’m determined to keep up with this little project, and have yet to miss a day, (Not that this is a HUGE accomplishment, mind you, given that it’s only January 20th, and most of this week’s entries say things like, “Had dinner again today. It made me feel less hungry.”) so here are three of the things I wrote in my gratitude journal this week…

snow on the grass

01. Working from home

I kind of touched on this last week (look, I DID warn you I’d be scrapping the barrel this week…), but having spent the past few days feeling like someone just snuck up behind me and hit me in the head with a baseball bat, I have never been so grateful to be able to work from home as I am right now. Not only have I NOT had to deal with things like scraping the snow off the car, or driving home in the pitch dark, I’ve also been able to work from the comfort of my bed (And by “work” I mean “sleep”. I’ve been able to, er, sleep from the comfort of my own bed. Yes.), and take breaks as often as I needed to (Which was often, just FYI). I know working from home isn’t for everyone, but there’s absolutely no way I’d have been able to cope with office life this week (Or any other week, if I’m being honest…), so being able to work from home, with messy hair and no makeup has saved my sanity, basically.

grass poking through the snow02. Cadbury’s Creme Eggs are back!

I suspect it’s really, really sad of me to be listing chocolate as one of my positive things for the week (And the last time I mentioned my love for Cadbury’s Creme Eggs, someone commented and told me I would totes get diabetes and die if I kept eating them. Which was nice, and not at all scaremongery, I’m sure*.), but damn, I LOVE Cadbury’s Creme Eggs, so when Terry went out to stock up on flu medication, and returned with the news that they were back in the stores again, it pretty much made my week. Especially given that he ALSO returned with some of  the aformentioned Creme Eggs: I mean, if he’d just TOLD me about them, we’d be divorced by now, wouldn’t we?

(*Now I feel like I have to add that I don’t, like, eat dozens of Creme Eggs per week or anything. Just one every now and then. Washed down with wine, obviously. And drugs.) (JOKE)

Boden Joanna coat03. This coat

This coat, people. This coat has made my life complete. It’s like, all my life, I thought I needed things like money, or love to be truly happy, but it turns out what I REALLY needed was a mint green coat. Now that I finally have one, my biggest fear is that the year has peaked too soon, and it’s all just going to be downhill from here – because what could possibly compete with THIS COAT, I ask you?

Now, before you say it, no, I have NOT cheated on my spending diet again (or not this week, at least…): as I mentioned in last week’s post, I have some new blog collaborations planned for 2017, and one of them is with Boden, who were kind enough to send me over some items.  It’s possible that I now owe them my soul or something, because each thing was even more amazing the last, but meh, who cares about souls when you have a mint green coat to wear? Exactly. I’ll be posting more about all of this soon, but the main reason I mention it today is because the Coat of Dreams is currently on sale, and I wouldn’t want you to miss out on it, because that would be tragic. I’ve been absolutely dying to wear this, and take some proper photos of it, but as I’ve been feeling like I would literally die if I tried to leave the house, I’ve had to postpone that until next week, unfortunately.

At least I know what’ll be on NEXT week’s gratitude list, though, huh?

[Three Things Friday is my attempt to focus on the good things in life, however small, rather than dwelling on the negatives. Every day, I write down three positive or happy thoughts in my journal, and every week I share three of those things here on my blog. You can read more about this project, and how it started, here.]

It’s that time of year again – post Christmas and pre-spring – winter. It’s the worst time of year for me and hard to stay positive.

You are now on the top of my gratitude list, I adore that coat and have just purchased one for myself!! Thanks for the inspiration!

  • Every time Boden launch a mint green coat I lust after it but just cannot afford one given that I have a perfectly serviceable blue M&S coat that I don’t even need to wear all that much. Le sigh, one day maybe. I could throw four months worth of budget at it, ha ha!

Years ago…probably late 60s ago…I had a mint green raincoat. And I, too, love those eggs.

Cadbury creme eggs are totally gratitude-worthy! Once year, after Easter, my sister and I found them on sale for TEN CENTS EACH! We bought the equivalent of a duffle bag full (and didn’t get diabetes and die so there.)

  • That coat is so gorgeous that I actually clicked on the link instantly earlier and only just remembered to come back and read the rest of the post! Ah, the power of a perfect mint green coat!

In the States we had Cadbury “Scream” eggs with green centers for Halloween. Haven’t seen the standard version in stores yet this year!

  • Well done. You got your coat! 🙂
Now I am trying very hard to find my 3 positive things ___

  • You know, I am a creme egg fan and yes I do eat far too many, but I discovered recently that I far more enjoy mini creme eggs because I can put though whole thing in my mouth and enjoy it slowly …

This is a great post, despite your “scrapping the barrel.” I love the snow-covered grass photo; it drew me in. I have taken so many like it. Even though you are in Scotland and I’m in Maine, I’m glad we can both enjoy Cadbury crème eggs. And the mint green coat is MARVELOUS!! (You so try my budgeting willpower with the urge to shop!) Love it with that purse.
