OUTFIT | A Lesson Learned
This dress was a bit of a mistake.
I ordered it back in January, when it first appeared on the River Island website. It arrived, I loved it… but it was still the middle of winter, and I knew it would be weeks before I actually got the chance to wear it, so I stupidly didn’t give it as much thought as I should have, and just hung it up in the closet, waiting for spring.
Well, spring came, and so did my chance to wear the dress. Unfortunately, it was only then, when I put it on last week, that I realised the stripes are mis-matched at the front and back, which honestly drives me CRAZY. It was much too late to return it by that point, obviously, and as you can see, I wore it anyway because I really wanted it to work, but I’m kinda annoyed with myself for not noticing something that would normally have made me return it.
Oh well, it’s a lesson learned, I guess – and hey, I buy the dresses so you don’t have to, right? I’m practically performing a public service here, people!
P.S. If you’ve signed up to my newsletter (subscription box in the sidebar, if you haven’t noticed it…), first of all, THANK YOU. Second of all, you might want to check your junk mail folder to make sure you’ve received the conformation email, which contains a link you need to click to confirm your subscription. I’ve actually now removed this step, so any new subscribers won’t have to confirm their emails, but I noticed quite a few existing ones are unconfirmed, so either you secretly don’t want to receive the email, or it’s lurking in your junk folder somewhere – sob! (Even if you do sign up today, I know newsletters have a habit of getting marked as spam, so you might want to double-check anyway – I mean, I’d hate for you to miss any of my words of wisdom, after all 😉 )

Oh, jesus even on the website they are stupidly mismatched. That would make my brain hurt. On the plus the dress is fabulous looking on you.
(On a side note, can you buy all the white dresses and wear them for me please? I have a toddler who loves nothing better than to rub his nose or sticky hands on me so white / light plain clothes are out of my wardrobe until he learns where the wipes are and how to use them before he comes near me!!………… well there’s that and my chronic clumsiness which guarantees that I will spill something on myself within seconds of putting something white on, sigh)

It does however look absolutely fabulous from the front!!!

Oh god, I hate it so much when patterns don’t match up properly – especially one as obvious as stripes! Ugh. If it’s any consolation you still look absolutely fabulous in this one xxx

I can understand how that would be really annoying! if it is any consolation I don’t think a casual observer would notice. 🙂

That’s so sloppy! I can’t believe that… surely it wouldn’t have killed them to pay a little more attention to their designs? Good thing your pictures here are both squarely from the front, or my OCD would go haywire…

Haha I was going to say “you look so great!” but yeah, the mismatched stripes thing would drive me totally batty – especially when they are so bold as these. It’s even worse than ‘neckline details that don’t continue on the back’ for me. Well, you look fantastic from the front!

Sorry, something went wrong. Perhaps you could delete the wrong post above.

The dress looks great in the pics and I like how you paired it with red accessories.
On the other hand, thank you for the warning and yes online shopping is amazing but we all need to be a bit more careful and double check our orders for defaults on time. Thank you once again for being honest!!!
Have a lovely day!!!

I love the dress on you but I agree we need to be careful with this whole online shopping thingy. I once received two left shoes from New Look and it took me weeks to realise as silly me didn’t bother to try them on.

Mismatching stripes are a pet peeve of mine as well. It seems like such an easy thing to fix! I am SO guilty of buying clothes out of season (or perhaps not in the right size with the intentions of tailoring…), hanging them up, and then finding a flaw later on, when it’s much too late to return. Terribly annoying and a habit I need to break lol.

That would drive me nuts too, but it’s only noticeable if you turn around on the plus side? Also when worn with a cardi, it would hide some of it anyway. Feel your pain, still looks lovely anyway though! Poor show though River Island, shame on them!

Mismatched stripes just drive me crazy as well. And especially when the dress isn’t cheap! I am surprised by how many moderately priced dresses have this flaw.

At least it looks amazing from the front, and you styled it perfectly! Too bad you couldn’t return it though.
