A Whiter Shade of Pale
Well, guess which song YOU’RE going to have stuck in your head all day now, huh? My gift to you, people: you’re welcome. And before you hate me too much, know that I wrote this post yesterday, and that I, too, have had A Whiter Shade of Pale playing on a loop in my brain ever since, so at least we’re all in it together…
Anyway, when I said in my last post that I’d lived to twirl another day, in spite of my blogging-related knee injury, Saturday was the “other day” I was referring to, and this skirt was the one I did the twirling in: thankfully without injuring myself this time.
I tried my best to resist this skirt, I really did. Not because I didn’t love it, I hasten to add, but simply because it’s autumn now, and honestly: how often do you get the opportunity to wear a giant white skirt in autumn? “Not often enough,” is the answer you’re looking for there. So, I saw the skirt, and I had a brief tussle with myself over whether or not to order it. I’m a big believer in the idea that clothes should be WORN, rather than simply ACQUIRED (and that goes for both the clothes I buy myself, and the ones I receive from brands: I just don’t see the point of having tons of stuff I’m never going to wear). I have a lot of clothes, obviously (“Yeah, no kidding,” I hear you say…), but I DO try to get plenty of use out of them, and I was worried that I’d fail in my mission with this skirt, and that it would just hang in the closet, unworn. Which is the very definition of “tragedy”, as you know. Seriously, look it up…
I’m also, however, a big believer in the idea that there are some items you love you so much that you just HAVE to have them, even if you have no immediate plans to wear them. I try not to do that too often (I think there are only a couple of dresses in my closet that I haven’t worn, but they’re amazing, and I love them, so je ne regrette rien…), but this skirt was one of those items, and the fact that I actually DID get to wear it, and just a few days after it arrived, too, was just an unexpected bonus.
I have to say, though, September has been REALLY kind to us this year. In fact, it’s been a whole lot kinder than August was, and that awkward transitional month I normally hate so much has actually been super-easy, and has given me tons of unexpected opportunities to get some more mileage out of my summer wardrobe. I’m sure I’ll have to get the boots and tights out soon, but we’ve had a pretty good run of it, so I don’t think I can complain too much. Not that that’s ever stopped me before, of course.
Now sing it with me, folks: “Aaaand so it waaaaaaaaaas laaaaaaater… as the miller told his tale….”
