When you have absolutely *nothing* to wear…

I can’t believe it’s the middle of January, and I’m just getting round to publishing my first outfit post of the year.

Actually, scratch that: I CAN believe it. (The lack of outfit posts, I mean, not the fact that it’s the middle of January. I really can’t quite believe that…) The fact is, I’ve long since realised that winter just isn’t my season when it comes to fashion. No matter how hard I try, or how much I like winter looks on other people, I just can’t get on with all of the boots and the tights and the pesky “layering”… which means I’ve spent most of this month so far staring into my closet and complaining that I have NOTHING to wear. NOTHING. AT ALL.

This is a complete lie obviously: I mean, I do know that. I actually have so much to wear that I could probably wear a different outfit every day for weeks on end without repeating, at this point. (Briefly considers doing this, as some kind of “challenge””. Immediately realises that it would be really boring and hard, and I don’t like boring, hard things. Also, was probably exaggerating with the whole “weeks on end” bit. Get a grip, Amber, seriously…) The problem is, I just don’t liiiiiikkkeee any of it. Or I do, but I’d need it to be summer to be able to wear the things I like, and it’s not going to be summer for a very long time, so woe is me. Getting dressed is haaaaaard, you guys.

Anyway, rather than meet the challenge head on, I’ve mostly just been retreating into those good ol’ jeans-and-a-sweater outfits I love so much. I have actually photographed some of them indoors, and will do a roundup at the end of the month (Betchya can’t wait for THAT, huh?), but the weather has been too dark and rainy to take what I think of as “proper” outfit photos, and I’ve kind of slipped into the mindset that a good outfit is wasted on a day I can’t get a decent photo of it (If a fashion blogger wears a great outfit, but no one on the internet sees it, did it even happen?), so, yeah, it hasn’t been a good month for clothes, folks.

Last week, though, we got some snow. Now, the one good thing about snow is that it isn’t rain, and the other good thing about snow is that it makes for a really easy photo backdrop, so I decided it was time to delve back into the closet, and put together an outfit that didn’t include jeans. Well, this outfit succeeds in that respect, but it is very formulaic for me, in that it’s one of those four outfit formulas I always fall back on.

When you feel like you have nothing to wear (Even when you have…), though, I find those formulas can be a complete Godsend: they allow you to throw together an outfit that’s just as easy as jeans, and which requires just as little thought, too. Which pretty much describes this outfit, really: I’ve worn both the skirt and sweater many times before on this site, and I’ve worn both of them quite recently, too, but who cares? It’s something other than jeans, at least, so here I am, with my second day hair and the start of the cold I mentioned last week (And which DID turn into a fairly nasty one: because OF COURSE it did!), trying my best not to fall over in the snow. I think we can safely say that normal service has resumed…

P.S. Usual disclaimers apply here: yes, I was wearing a coat, no I didn’t walk around in thick snow all day in high heels (the paths were all clear, as were the roads, I just deliberately stepped into some snow to get a better photo, because I’m shallow like that…), no I didn’t freeze to death, and no clothes or bloggers were harmed in the making of this post.
