Auld Lang Syne

Happy New Year, everyone!

I know I’m a little late to the party with my New Year post, but that’s actually quite fitting, as I was almost late to the ACTUAL party, too, having:

a) Managed to use rollers in such a way that my fringe ended up perpendicular to my head, and had to be held down with bobby pins.

b) Realised that I’d forgotten my phone, and that we would have to return to the house for it, because, OMG, how would the Internet manage without me tweeting on it, and posting Instagram photos of my shoes all night?

c) Sent Terry back into the house for said phone, only to realise after he’d been searching the house for it for five minutes that, whoops, it had been in my handbag all along! Sorry, Terry! (And then I didn’t tweet or Instagram once, all night. Huh.)

We spent the evening with both of our families, and a couple of friends, at a local restaurant which was hosting a New Yea’rs eve dinner/party. As some of you may recall, I absolutely loathe New Year, as I loathe any kind of reminder that hey, time’s a-wastin’! Not getting any younger! Or, as my mother-in-law would say, “You never know when you’re a-gonna go!” But if there is a good way to celebrate such a mournful (to me) occasion, then I guess surrounded by the people you love is the way to do it. And it definitely beats all of those years spent at home, watching the Edinburgh castle piper play his sad lament as the clock strikes midnight. It also beats all of those years spent looking at the clock and going, “Is that it? Has it happened yet? Do you think we’ve missed it?” In other words: a good time was had by all. Even me.

As for 2012, I know it’s customary for bloggers at this point to provide a perky list of resolutions, but because I don’t like to set myself up for failure, I haven’t made any, other than my usual two:

1. Remain alive

2. Buy shoes

I will definitely manage at least one of these.

  • If my husband read this he would swear I had written this! I ‘lose’ my phone all of the time only to later find it in my handbag.

I love those shoes! Happy New Year!

  • Fabulous resolutions. Best I’ve read so far. I also hate NYE, but mostly because I don’t find a super-crowded bar/club a fun place to be anymore. Give me a glass of wine, a bed and a book. I never said I was exciting, either. 🙂

    1) my hubby would never go back to retrieve my phone. Bravo, Terry.
    2) I love your clutch!!!
    3) the dress is gorgeous, I never seem to find dresses below the knee on River Island!!

I’d have the same 2 resolutions, but the husband says that if 1 pair comes in, 1 comes out. Good to keep the clutter at bay, but not much fun.
Hence I could never take part in a shoe challenge, I live it vicariously reading your blog. Here’s to many more, Amber, happy new year.

Love your resolutions…I may have to use those.

I’m a bit of bah-humbug about NYE too….nearly everyone else sees it as a new start, I see it as a sad goodbye to the past year. Cheery huh?! LOL!

  • hahaha hilarious post as always!
I already told you how much I loved your dress and shoes!
So this time, I’ll tell you that I don’t think my boyfriend would return back home just to search for my phone, and If I had it on my purse all along he would probably be a bit angry about it. So you’re really lucky with Terry.
I also liked your resolutions! I don’t like to make those either. But number 1 would definitely be at the top of my list. And now that I think about it, no.2 would be too! 🙂

  • Sparkly shoes! Delightful!

One of my best new years ever was the one where we were having so much fun we actually missed midnight but at least half an hour. We must have been doing something right there. 😀
