The Birthday Dress
It was my birthday on Monday. I’m not a big fan of birthdays (Or, indeed, anything that reminds me that I’m getting older, and yet no wiser. See also: New Year’s Eve), but I AM a big fan of dresses, and an even bigger fan of dresses with full skirts and polka dots, so my gift from Terry this year was a particularly good one.
Now, before you get too impressed, no, he didn’t pick it out himself. I mean, he’s good, but he’s not THAT good, you know? So I may have dropped a few hints, and by that I mean, “He asked me what I wanted for my birthday, and I sent him a link to the dress, with instructions on which size to get me.”
(Don’t worry, he’ll do the same when it’s his turn. He probably won’t ask me to get him a spot-print dress, though.)
I honestly didn’t expect to get to wear this dress for weeks yet. As you probably gathered from the whining-about-the-weather I was doing in my last post (And, OK, the one before it), it’s been absolutely FREEZING lately, and it’s also been windy and rainy, so cotton dresses didn’t seem to loom large in my future. In fact, I’d actually started to suspect that I’d somehow managed to slip into some kind of alternate reality from everyone else, because while I’ve been considering buying a thermal vest, just to walk the dog in (I’d wear the vest, obviously, not the dog. He says he’s happy just to stick to his usual fur coat.), my fellow fashion bloggers all seemed to have fully transitioned into spring. There they were, with their bare legs and their cute little dresses. And there I was, entering into the eleventy-first month of winter, and wondering if I’d ever be warm again. HOW DO THEY DO IT, THE FASHION BLOGGERS? How do they get to experience the seasons before everyone else does? And what do I have to do to get in on that?
Well, as it happened, I didn’t have to wait too long to finally get in on spring, because, on the morning of my birthday, I woke up to blue skies and temperatures that were just warm enough to let me wear my birthday dress, albeit with a cardigan over the top, and the ubiquitous fishnet tights. I didn’t even flash my underwear at passers-by or anything.
All things considered, it was a pretty good day.[show_ms_widget id=”59540″ image_id=”92788″ width=”715″ height=”998″]
