The Amy Dress
We’ve finally reached that special point of the year when all of my outfit posts have to be prefaced with the disclaimer that:
A) Yes, I was wearing a coat.
and
B) Probably a cardigan, too.
Actually, it was surprisingly warm(ish) the day these photos were taken. Not quite “prance around with bare arms” warm, obviously, but certainly, “whip your coat off for a couple of minutes to get some quick outfit photos,” warm. Which is good enough for me.
This dress is called ‘Amy’ (Aside: Don’t you just love it when brands give their clothes names? It saves me having to do it myself…), and I’d been coveting it ever since it appeared on the Boden website, so I was naturally keen to get some wear out of it, bare arms or not. Luckily, I think this is the kind of dress that will work all year round: the fabric is a cotton sateen, which is dressy without being OVER-dressy, and I just so happen to have a pair of peep toes in the exact blue/teal of the check pattern, which will work perfectly with it in summer.
I may have been willing to take my coat off for the photos, however, but I had to draw the line at peep toes, so instead I’m wearing the Dorothy Perkins ankle boots (plus a pair of matching tights) I bought this week. This is actually the second time I’ve worn this particular tight/boots combination this week already, so, having never owned green tights in my life before, I’m now thinking I might need to stock up on them. It stands to reason I would get a lot of use out of green tights, though, doesn’t it? As for the boots: I’m honestly tempted to stock up on those, too. You know, for that inevitable day when I wear them to death, and then I don’t know how to dress myself without them? I can’t be the only one who does that… can I?

I have that dress on my wishlist as well, but after much contemplation I recently ordered the Zoe dress instead. I love how you styled it though!
Amber
I have the Zoe dress on mine too!
Carley
Absolutely gorgeous, Amber! Green is my favourite colour so naturally I’m loving this whole look.
Stay warm!

Thanks, Carley!

I love the tights and shoes in same colour combo – it’s a great leg lengthener (and let’s face it, people my height need all the help they can get in that department) and I think it just instantly adds a bit of style to any look. Therefore, today’s outfit gets a big thumbs up from me (the girl who yesterday wore burgundy tights and shoe boots to work, oh yes). I am already dreading taking outfit photos in a few weeks’ time… it’s ok now, but you know how bad it’s going to get! And you’re in Scotland!!
Amber
Seriously, every winter I come close to giving up altogether – it’s just impossible to get decent photos most days! I’m starting to see why some bloggers just take all their photos on the same day: sometimes one dry day is all you get!
Selina
Yes!!! Coloured tights! Now you’re talking
Lizzie
Oh, it’s so Anthropologie-esque! And those colored tights are spectacular. The bad thing about fall/winter though is that while I love fall fashion (tights! boots! tall socks!) it gets cold and wet and miserable and then I don’t want to take pictures and my husband doesn’t want to take them either. The lighting is awful, the cold makes me cranky… alright, enough whining already! You look great! Good luck keeping up with the weather and season! xoxo
Amber
Oh, tell me about it! I think I would actually go into hibernation at this time of year if I possibly could! I could actually stand the cold for a few months, but the darkness is unbearable!
Bro Nagh
Have this dress too! Love how you styled it x

I love the coloured tights look, but green can be tricky. Bought some the other day that were a touch too bright, was humming ‘robin hood’ all day long.
I think I need to check out Boden. I’ve resisted so far but think it’s time to fall down the rabbit hole….
Amber
I normally steer clear of coloured tights, because I always feel about five in them, but these were dark enough I thought I could get away with them! And the colour was an exact match for the green in the dress, so it was done deal 🙂

You’d love the Australian designer Leona Edmiston. She names all of her dresses.

I have this dress too and absolutely love it – perfect for twirling, don’t you find? http://dinoprincesschar.blogspot.co.uk/2014/09/i-heart-robot.html

I tried on a forest green hat today and I absolutely loved it. It was too pricey for a hat in a colour I own nothing in, so I left it there. But I am blaming you for making me try something in green, which I usually wouldn’t do, and making me spend the afternoon rationalising why should I buy a green hat. Like knowing that most of my outerwear is brown/black, so it could actually work, and when it doesn’t I have the black hat, and I was going to buy a light camel one anyway, so one with colour would be nice, and come on, I have green eyes and dark brown hair, it’d look perfect… Ahem. (The good kind of blaming, tho, it’s an amazing colour!)
Anyway, I’d actually love to see the coats too 🙂 I can usually figure out how to keep my legs warm, but what coat to wear over dresses like this is still a mystery to me…

Oo very nice indeed Amber! What a find, to get those tights in the same colour as the boots, it’s like kismet.
Incidentally, I just read this post whilst listening to ’80s classic “I think we’re alone now” by Tiffany, and if you were to shoot an outfit video, then I can confirm that it would be the perfect backing track.

I just spent an hour on the Boden site, thanks for the inspiration!

Great combination! I love green and a good pair of colored tights, but a subtle pair of not-too-stand-outish green is hard for me to find. You did well with your find; I love the whole outfit.

Love this dress. What are your thoughts on Boden sizing though? Do you think this one is true to size? (I have a ridiculous range of sizes in dresses from them!)
Loving the tights/boots combo as well!
Amber
I always find Boden sizing runs large!
