What I Bought When I Should Have Been Buying a Halloween Costume
And no, I have absolutely no regrets. Especially considering that I’m pretty sure I got the very last pair on the Zara website, and they’re now selling on eBay for way more than the retail price. Dodged a bullet with that one, huh?
This wasn’t a totally trouble-free transaction, though, because, having loved these shoes from the moment I saw them, I naturally waited until they’d sold out in my size before deciding that NOW was the moment I would buy them. Of COURSE I did.
All was not lost, though. They’d sold out in my size, and, indeed, in every other size but one. That size was one smaller than I usually wear, but then again, Zara’s sizing can be a little bit random when it comes to shoes. In fact, the more I thought about it, the more I convinced myself that it just might work. I DID, after all, have a few pairs of shoes from there that are smaller than I’d usually wear, and they fit fine, so maybe these would, too?
I decided to risk it. It was either that or embark upon one of those massive eBay battles (And yes, I feel “battle” is the right word for these situations) which always result in me paying more than I really wanted to, just so I can WIN. I really didn’t want to do that, so I pushed the trigger, ordered the shoes, and didn’t allow myself to even HOPE they would fit.
But they did. Oh, miracle of miracles, they actually fit! And no, they’re not the PERFECT fit, it’s true. But they’re a way better fit than I had any right to expect, and having worn them around the house
and to bed for the past few days, I’m confident I’ll be able to wear them without any damage to my toes, which is good. And, I mean, who really NEEDS a decent Halloween costume, anyway?
Oh yeah: I DO. And I need it by Saturday.
Royal Fail, I’m really counting on you here. Please don’t let me down. This time.
(These are sold out online, but if you want to obsessively refresh the page to see if they come back into stock, you can find them here.)
