What? You didn’t think I’d do a full 12 days of Christmas-inspired outfits without including this skirt, did you? I mean, AS IF.
This outfit is actually a little more festive than it probably looks in the photo: as well as the skirt itself, which is silk, and has a lovely sheen to it, the sweater is metallic, so it ALSO has a bit of a glitter effect going on there. (It’s from New Look, but I also bought this one from H&M a couple of weeks ago, so I guess you could say I’m pretty much sorted for shimmery knitwear at the moment. I mean, you’d be WRONG, obviously, because you can NEVER have enough shimmery sweaters, but you could say it…)
This is another one of those casual/dressy combos which I’ve been wearing fairly often. I always seem to find myself in situations which aren’t particularly dressy in themselves, but which I want to dress up for anyway, and this kind of outfit has a way of tricking people into thinking I’m appropriately dressed for them. It’s like, they see the skirt and the shoes, and they WANT to accuse me of being over-dressed, but then, BAM! It’s that turtleneck sweater! You can’t argue with a turtleneck sweater, can you? If you tried, I’d just make my eyes go all wide and innocent, and say, “Dressed up? Me? GOD no: I mean, I’m wearing a sensible polo neck – it doesn’t get much more casual than that!” Ha! Sometimes I am so cunning I amaze even myself.*
On a serious note, nothing says “festive” quite like red and gold (Well, other than maybe a Santa Claus outfit or something, and no way am I wearing one of those…), and this is the kind of thing I’ll probably wear on Boxing Day, or at some other point over the holidays. And by “probably” I mean “definitely”.
Two days to go, folks!
