The 12 Days of Christmas Outfits: Day 1 – The Gold Sequin Skirt
So, there’s 12 days left until Christmas Eve.
Don’t worry, I haven’t suddenly turned into a Christmas Person: I was just counting it up so I could work out how worried I should be about not having finished my Christmas shopping yet. As it turns out, “quite worried” is the answer to that question, because as I said, there’s 12 days to go, and that’s not long AT ALL for someone who never has a clue what to buy anyone. Seriously, why can’t EVERYONE just like the same things I like? That would make my life SO much easier…
Anyway. 12 days to go, and it looks like every one of them is probably going to be as cold, wet and downright miserable as every other day this month has been, so I don’t know about you, but I’m struggling to get into the Christmas spirit here. Even more so than usual, I mean. I’m also struggling to take my usual outfit shots (Because, as well as being too rainy and dark to take photos, it’s also too cold to go out without wearing at least 15 layers…), and that’s when the idea came to me: 12 days of Christmas Outfits.
It’s not an original idea, I hasten to add (In fact, I know Gemma at Retro Chick has mentioned something similar), but it is a pretty simple one, and that’s why I like it: for the next 12 days, I will challenge myself to wear a different Christmas Outfit each day. Er, that’s pretty much it, really. I hope you weren’t expecting there to be some kind of point to this, because there isn’t one – well, other than to give me an excuse to break out all of those party dresses I hardly ever get to wear, anyway: and that’s as good a reason as any, isn’t it?
I actually think this could end up being more of a challenge than I anticipated, though, because as I rummaged through my closet, in search of outfit number 1, it occurred to me that although I DO have a lot of “dressy” clothes, I don’t actually have a lot of Christmas party clothes. Probably because I don’t really go to Christmas parties, do I? No, I do not. So this could end up being either a giant, embarrassing disaster, or a really good excuse for me to buy that green ASOS dress I’ve been obsessing over.* Oh GOD, I wish I could buy that dress…
(*I will not be buying that dress.)
(*Unless they suddenly and randomly put it on sale for, like, £20.)
(*Or I win the lottery.)
(*Not to self: start playing the lottery.)
Anyway, there’s no point crying over dresses you can’t afford (And I know, because I’ve tried), so here’s the first of my 12 Days of Christmas Outfits, and I’ll have 11 more to show you between now and Christmas Eve. Either that or I’ll get bored and give up by Friday: the suspense will be half the fun!
