Halloween Costume 2015 | Daenerys Targaryen: Mother of Dragons, Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea, Fashion Blogger

Khaleesi / Game of Thrones Fancy dress

Daenerys Targaryen Halloween costume

It’s a little known fact, but before she gained worldwide recognition for birthing baby dragons, spending a lot of time butt naked, and generally kicking ass, Daenerys Targaryen (first of her name) was actually a lowly fashion blogger, much like you or me.

Er, almost exactly me, actually. I mean, without the wig, she could almost BE me: amazing!

So, I’d wanted to do a Khaleesi Halloween costume ever since I got into Game of Thrones last year, but, as is so often the way with me, this all ended up being a bit of a rush job: not least because, just as I was about to start getting ready, I got a migraine. Then, once my vision had returned to normal, and I thought the worst was past… I got another one: OUCH.

Now, I’m really lucky in that I don’t normally get a really bad headache with my migraines (I mostly just get the visual disturbances then – if I’m lucky – a bit of mild nausea), so I didn’t let it stop me going to the party anyway, but it did make getting ready a bit more of a challenge than it should have been! It also meant we didn’t have much time to take photos, so these ones aren’t the greatest, but oh well – at least I had fun, and no one tried to make me eat a stallion’s heart, or tame a live dragon, so that’s the main thing, isn’t it?

I based my look on a turquoise/blue dress Daenerys wears in the show: my dress came c/o Choies (I’m going to guess hers probably didn’t, but you never know…), with the gold ‘belt’ and associated, er, dangly bits, coming from my mum’s sewing box. The giant brown thing I’m holding,  meanwhile, is, of course, a dragon’s egg (OBVIOUSLY), which came from my parents’ garden. I WAS going to buy a toy dragon to take with me, but like I said, I left everything to the last minute, then realised I’d just spend the money on something I’d dump in a corner as soon as I got to the party and immediately forget about it, so I abandoned that plan. And at least this way I had a legit reason to go around saying, “WHERE ARE MY DRAGONS?!” to people, so there was that, too. (I also spent the morning of the party saying to Terry, “WHERE IS MY COFFEE?” in my best Daenerys accent. I mean, I wasn’t even in costume at that point, but if I had been, that would’ve been totes hilarious, seriously. )

Speaking of Terry:

Meet NEON MAN: a creature of Terry’s own creation. Neon Man’s superpower is… Neon man doesn’t has a super-power: he just has neon-lined clothes, and Terry spent many a long minute hand-stitching neon string to things in order to make his costume. It was totally worth it, though, because at the end of the night he came home with the coveted ‘Best Costume’ award, which he’s been trying to win for the past five years. It was a lofty goal, but he did it, and I could not be more proud.

Now to start planning NEXT year’s costume…

Awesome costumes! Neon man is inspired, but I like your look too. I was supposed to have a toy Scooby Doo for mine, but didn’t manage that either… Your egg’s pretty convincing, I think.

I didn’t dress up this year because all my friends are lame, but I love Terry’s idea! I’m not surprised he won!!! Of course, no one can’t love a good Daenerys costume. That dress was a killer choice.

We went as Daenerys and Khal Drogo last year! It was so much fun to dress like them. And, because I was 9 months pregnant, I went with the whole stallion who rode the world heart idea and put fake blood on my face. So fun!

Hah, I read the title as ‘…Khaleesi of the Great Sass’ and, well, it fits perfectly for both you and darling Dany.
