Amber Florals in Springtime

Yellow and green 50s dress with floral print and high heels

House of Foxy yellow floral retro summer dress

retro sundress on a spring dayAs soon as this dress arrived, I knew it was destined to be photographed in a field of flowers. It’s just that kind of dress, isn’t it?

Unfortunately for me, we don’t have many orange roses around these here parts, so daffodils had to do: oh, and a bunch of yellow tulips, which were actually part of my mum’s Mother’s Day gift – I promise I don’t usually go around accessorising my outfits with actual flowers, but, well, let’s just say it wouldn’t be the first time I’d taken advantage of them for a quick photo op. Or even the second time. I could go on, but I’m just going to stop there, and leave you with the certain knowledge that if I ever bring you a bunch of flowers, I’ve probably taken photos of them first. Bloggers, eh?

Anyway, the dress! This one got a lot of love when I featured it on Instagram , and I’m not surprised, because it’s the perfect spring dress, really, with its fitted bodice, swishy skirt (I’m wearing a petticoat with it in these photos, but it looks good without one, too), and, best of all, POCKETS. Oh, and that print! I know florals in springtime are considered a bit of a cliché, but I honestly can’t bring myself to care, because they just work. This dress actually arrived right at the start of that glorious weekend we had a couple of weeks ago, and I couldn’t imagine anything I’d rather wear on such a sunny, perfect day. I added the cardigan to keep my arms warm (It’s an old one from New Look, but they’ve just re-released it, and it’s also available in a range of other colours, too. Guess who’s going to be placing a New Look order sometime soon?), but, as you can see from the House of Foxy website, the dress has lovely little cap sleeves, which give it a real 50s-inspired feel.

Oh, and the print is called ‘Amber Floral’ – could it be any more perfect?

What a lovely dress in the perfect setting. Spring is my favourite time of the year (maybe after Christmas).

Can I just say how jealous I am of you for that spring setting? Why, why, why aren’t the flowers like that here?

Omigosh-thankyou-so-much-for-this-post! I was having the most miserable day and this is so beautiful it took my breath away. It has been a year where I feel as though everyone around me has succeeded, while I got knocked down, hard. Literally: new mini-mansion with new BMW SUV (their other BMW and Porsche are older), neighbors downstairs have a brand new SUV, another neighbor, who was a friend, moved to a lovely new apartment, then a gorgeous new house with a large yard so the dog can romp. And still more. But what knocked the wind out of my sails and sent me on a major pout was a friend I’ve known for almost 10 years posting pictures of the new house she & her family bought and fixed up wonderfully. MY life is going in reverse! This isn’t jealousy, it’s my questioning life choices and trying to even imagine a path for me forward.
This picture means so much to me, Amber, because it represents Hope! Spring will bring its renewal, life will go on. And maybe, somehow, I can capture a little bit of that happiness. Love the fact that the dress has your name in it!

Where do you get your petticoats, Amber? I’m dying for one but can only find those trashy, Hallowe’eny ones for some reason. Thanks in advance.

Mine were from Ebay, years ago – they’re not particularly great quality, though: I don’t wear them often enough to have been willing to invest!
