Visiting Elie, Fife

Every time the sun comes out in Scotland, people immediately start going around saying, “You know, it’s such a beautiful country: if we JUST got the weather!

Well, it IS a beautiful country, and last week we DID get “the weather”, so we decided to head one of the prettiest parts of the Fife coastline for a day out. Actually, almost ALL of this coastline is on the scenic side: it’s just one pretty little seaside village after another -hence the complete photo overload in this post. Can you blame me, though? I mean, when the scenery is this nice, you just HAVE to photograph it – and luckily this time we remembered to bring the camera with us, which is always a good idea, I find.

These photos were taken in a selection of different places, but mostly in Elie and St. Monan’s, both of which had the most gorgeous floral displays, just in case the blue skies and cute little painted houses weren’t enough for you. Oh, and we also came across this, in St Monan’s:

It’s a Wellie Garden. And now I know what to do with all of those pairs of boots Terry is always falling over any time he attempts to open the hall cupboard…

Anyway, we had a lovely, relaxing day, and came home with sand in our shoes, and feeling a bit like we’d been on holiday, which is an awesome feeling, isn’t it? I just wish I could bottle that sunshine: after all, it really is a beautiful country… if we just got the weather.

  • I think Amber we should do a swap? Where you comes down to London for the sunshine and I comes up for the rain, what do you say? Does Rubin ever get fidgety in the pram? Like how us human get restless – is it the same for him?

      • Awww that really sweet, a good resting place for him. I was saying to my mum at the weekend how I was thinking about getting a doggy stroller, for when I get a dog next year, she think I’m mad!

  • Well I’m glad you finally did get the weather because these photos are beautiful. I have a major soft spot for pastel houses and bunting! BUNTING!!! I feel like some tourism company should be paying you for a post like this because seeing this actually does make me want to visit Scotland. I would love to roam these streets and ogle the lovely story book houses. And honestly, sometimes it’s nice to just go on a day trip somewhere than go through the bother of packing a suitcase and checking into potentially dubious accommodation.

  • it’s such a beautiful stretch of coast up there. My dog had to get specialist operations done in St Monan and we’d always pop to Anstruther Fish Bar, highly recommended if you haven’t been

ps. I’ve started reading your blogging book, really very helpful! I *will* make some money from blogging 😉

Maine, in the United States, is in full bloom this time of year also. I love the pastels and I, too, am trying to stretch out enjoying any good weather we have before winter closes in. As usual, GREAT photography! Makes me want to visit Scotland.

Wow those photos are absolutely gorgeous! I never knew there were parts of Scotland that look like that… it looks more like the coast of Italy or somewhere exotic, with that sunshine and those neat pastel houses! Thanks for sharing 🙂

  • Beautiful, beautiful photos! I think we get the same thing here in Wales, I mean there are beaches in West Wales that look like they’re in Australia or something – but only for that brief sunny window, before the rain and wind starts again… I love exploring Wales in all weathers, and am used to driving to beautiful places and just sitting in the car, but blimey, on a gorgeous day it’s great to feel vaguely continental. You’ve conveyed France in these photos of Fife! x
