February Fashion Wishlist

green gingham pencil skirt

Every month when I get paid, I sit down and think about what I’d like to buy that month.

Then I fall about laughing, because who do I think I am, one of the Kardashians or something? I WISH. (If I was, I would probably be Kourtney, just in case you’re wondering, because I really like all her sunglasses. No, wait: Kim – if only for all of those Balmain jackets…) (I totally just deleted an entire paragraph of me wondering aloud which one of the Kardashians I would most like to be. If I was in high school right now, my teacher would write me a report card saying, “If Amber spent as much time studying as she spends thinking about the Kardashians, she’d be Einstein by now…”)

(I’m actually going to go for Khloe, though: I think she might have the best shoes?)

(I have no idea what this post is even supposed to be about now.)

Wait! I was talking about all of the things I’d like to buy when I get paid, wasn’t I? Well, today I thought I’d share some of the items on my February wish list with you. Please don’t buy any of these, because then they’ll sell out, and that’ll make me mad. And you won’t like me when I’m mad….

So, here’s what I have my beady little eyes on this month:

February fashion wish list

01. Boden modern pencil skirt in green gingham

Actually, I want every single thing the model is wearing in the photo at the top of the page, but I’d settle for just the pencil skirt – which is from the Boden spring preview, meaning that if you order it now, you won’t get it until May, unfortunately. To be honest, that’s the only reason I haven’t ordered it yet: it’s been in and out of my basket so many times now it must be starting to feel sick…

02. Boden classic shirt in polka dot

I’ve been wearing shirts quite often lately, as you might have noticed if you’ve been following my outfit roundups (here and here).  This one has a polka dot print, so buying it would be almost a reflex action for me: I’m just waiting for a cheeky little Boden discount code to come along so I can make that dream a reality…

[Edit: I wrote this post on Thursday night, and then woke up on Friday morning to 20% off all tops, so hello classic shirt! Er, in approximately 17 weeks, apparently (!). Massive delay aside, the appearance of a discount just when I needed one has somewhat restored my faith in the universe. Looks like the easy jersey mini in navy stripe, which I was considering getting back in this post, might’ve snuck into that order too: whoops!]

03. Lindy Bop ‘Jocelyn’ dress

Of all of the Lindy Bop dresses I’ve obsessed over lately, this is one of the least “retro” looking, but that’s actually why I like it. As some of you might recall, I’ve been trying to buy more clothes that I can “dress down” a bit, and because this has a nice, floaty kind of shape, that isn’t too costumey, I think it’s the kind of thing I could probably get quite a bit of wear out of. And it’s green, obviously, so there’s that, too.

04. Sugarhill Boutiqye Daryl Embro knit dress and 05.  ‘Betsey’ heart-print dress

I’ve lumped these two together, because although they’re different styles, they’re both from the same store, and they’re also both the kind of casual dresses that my wardrobe is sadly lacking.

And finally…

06. Lindy Bop ‘Bethan’ polka dot pants

I already have these in black and red, and I’m thinking the polka dot version should be the next addition to my collection. Not that I’m trying to start a collection, you understand, I just… OK, ya got me: I AM trying to start a collection. And I will succeed, too, just you see if I don’t.

This is actually a pretty short wish list by my standards, and I’m sure you’re all as surprised by this as I am. I’m still trying to be a bit more sensible with my purchases, though (I know that’s pretty proving pretty boring for some of you to witness, so sorry about that!), and although this is a wish list, not an actual shopping list (i.e. I’m not planning to run out and buy everything on it. Just maybe SOME of them…), I’ve still tried to be realistic with it. Get me, being all grown up and sensible!

Tell me, though: what’s on your wish list this month?

Hi Amber, love this post and love even more that two items I’ve just ordered are on your list!! I’ve ordered the gingham skirt and the polka dot shirt from Boden. My wish list this month is to try and track down perfect navy trousers for Spring and a classic white shirt. I too am trying to buy more wearable/classic items. Keep getting distracted by prettiness but determined to try! X

    Dear Amber,
What happened to the lovely Boden Riveria dress: why doesn’t she appear in this wishlist?
I’m sure this wonderful gingham green dress pretty much went in and out from your basket too since the beginning of the preview. You must confess!!!!
I suspect she has been cast away for the sake of the pencil skirt, judged much more easy to dress down, if I understand.
But Jocelyn stayed in the wishlist, and hadn’t much to say for her defense on this matter of dressingdownness…
Aren’t you ashamed to treat Riveria with such casualness?
I hope you have a good explanation.
    That’s all I have to say…

I’m kinda afraid to admit it now, but I didn’t really like it that much 😳 It’s a nice dress, but the top just wouldn’t work for me – I think there are a lot nicer dresses out there for the price!

I love all of these. The Daryl dress was on my stripy wish list, too. Yes, I am so obsessed with stripes that I write a wish list of stripiness every month! Don’t judge. In fact I’m in love with pretty much everything on the Sugarhill site at the mo! x

I’ve got the Bethan polkadot trousers, they’re great. Can see already that they’re going to fade in the wash over time, and that the fabric might stretch out of shape though – they’re definitely not a ‘forever’ purchase that will last years and years.

I am still searching for the perfect pair of black knee high boots, they’ve been on my wish list for at least 5 years now! Otherwise, I end up just buying things impulsively. Whoops!

That gingham pencil skirt! The Jocelyn with the hearts on the collar! And that’s not to mention the fact that I’m now pretty much completely persuaded by you to get some of those Bethan trousers…what are you trying to do to my bank account?!

I really love all your February picks, especially the green dress with hearts a great colour to perk up a drizzly February day. The polka dot shirt is also fabulous

I have three of those Boden modern pencil skirts from various seasons past and love them. I don’t love the inevitable £99 price tag they start with though and normally pick them up on Clearance for £17 – £23 🙂
