February on Pinterest…
Lately I’ve become fascinated with the world of Pinterest Analytics: the little tab on your Pinterest account that lets you see what people have been pinning (and re-pinning) from your site, and which pins have been the most popular. (I think Analytics are only available on verified accounts, but you can also see what people are pinning from your blog https://www.pinterest.com/source/YOURDOMAIN into the search bar.) (Er, obviously replace the words YOURDOMAIN with your actual domain, though…)
I’m always reading blogging advice based around the idea that you should ignore your stats, and just blog about whatever you want, but while I don’t disagree with the second part of that sentence, I find it quite interesting to see which posts and images have been most popular – it can really help you identify what works for your blog and what doesn’t, and, if nothing else, it helps illustrate the fact that yes, you really DO wear the same damn thing, aaaaallll the time. And by “you” I mean “me”.
Here are my top 5 pins from January and February so far:
01. This is the outfit I was wearing on that infamous occasion when someone called the police and reported Terry for “stalking” me. Because I don’t know about you, but I ALWAYS stand and pose for photos for my stalkers…
02. This outfit is from November 2013, but I’ve repeated it more than a few times. A LOT more than a few times, actually…
03. My new coat from Collectif – it almost made me appreciate the snow. Almost.
04. I was quite surprised to see a summer outfit make the top five this month: this photo was taken in the Florida Keys in 2013, and makes me really wish I was back there!
05. I don’t wear this dress very often these days (I still have it, but it’s seen better days!), but I DO have a print of this photo in my powder room, which I guess is quite awkward for guests. And on THAT note, I think it’s time to wrap this one up – if you’re on Pinterest, you can find me here!

Oh I totally agree with what you say! Definitely one must blog out of passion and true love of this work/hobby/etc. But if one wants to take things a little bit more seriously, it is always good to be aware of where you are standing and what is going on in the blogosphere.
Stats definitely give me and idea on what my readers respond most to, and what they like!
I didn’t know about Pinterest, I’ve been meaning to get it verified, but just have put it off for a while… I shall do it now 🙂
PS. The last photo with the yellow dress is so lovely!

I think it has to be a balance between what you want to write about and what your readers want to read… but that’s perhaps because I enjoy writing content that’s successful, rather than simply to please myself. I didn’t know about the Terry stalker thing – that’s hilarious!

Blame me, I’m +1 of your stats for the first 3–falling over the cherry cardi on Pinterest is what introduced me to your blog–but these might almost constitute a magazine spread of “top trends” in nostalgic-chic: stripes, cherries, mint and brollies (okay, so the rainy one is also a really romantic picture, but you knew that.) So props for consistency of message. They are excellent photos, so kudos to Terry, and they obviously feed a yearning in the public consciousness. For simpler times, maybe? A feeling of abundance? French-ish philosopho-empathicalism and a baguette?

The yellow dress is my favourite outfit

I started Pinning your outfits after you wrote about it. Now I can refer back to them easily (I’m fairly new to Pinterest). I actually first found your blog on Google Images. I had purchased a yellow skirt and was browsing for outfit ideas. I found a photo of you in a yellow skirt and then your blog. Sadly, the yellow skirt I had was no longer interesting to me, and I have changed my style for the better. Thank you, Amber!

Oops, I don’t think I ever added you on Pinterest! Let me correct that…
(It used to be for verified accounts, now it’s for business accounts only. I used to check it sometimes because I could, but it’s gone now)
