I finally bought that dress…
Before I go any further, I just wanted to say a quick thank you for all of your comments on Saturday’s post about Rubin: I couldn’t respond to them all individually (mostly because some of them made me cry), but you’re all awesome, seriously.
He goes in for his surgery first thing tomorrow morning and I am, of course, beside myself with worry about it. The good news is that, after Wednesday’s lack of appetite, which was what prompted us to take him to see the vet, Rubin has been pretty much back to his usual self. He’s eating everything we give him, is interested in his treats and toys again, and is begging to go for walks – all good signs.
This does, of course, make me feel even more guilty about putting him through surgery, in some ways. I mean, it’s one thing to send an obviously sick pet in for an operation, but when the pet in question seems reasonably healthy, you can’t help but start to second-guess your decision, and wonder if you should just put it off a while longer.
I know we can’t, though. Because ‘putting it off’ is really all we’d be doing: he will have to have this surgery at some point, and I know it’s better that he have it when he’s otherwise healthy, and hopefully better able to withstand the surgery, it’s just… it’s scary, you know?
Anyway, I’m currently trying to distract myself by pretending everything is normal, so here are some photos from last week, when the sun was still shining, and I grabbed the opportunity to wear my Chi Chi London ‘Nora’ dress for the first time. If you’ve been reading this blog for a while, you might recall me obsessing over this dress fairly frequently this year. I’d told myself I definitely wouldn’t buy it, because it has a bit of a “special occasion” feel to it, and my diary isn’t exactly bursting with those right now, but then I found it on sale at ASOS, with only my size left in stock… I couldn’t ignore a sign as blatant as that one, could I?
As for it being a “special occasions only” dress, meanwhile, I call foul on that one, too. These photos were taken on a day trip to the little coastal town of Eyemouth: I added the cardigan mostly in an attempt to dress the look down a little, but I figured you can’t really go too far wrong with a floral dress on a summer’s day: and it IS still summer, after all – just…

I am so happy to hear Rubin is feeling better! Hopefully he will be 1000000000x better after the operation, and then none of you will have to worry about his cyst. Although I do hope he will carry on wearing his neckerchiefs because he looks very dashing in them 😀
This dress is Betty Draper perfection, soon as I saw it in my insta feed I had to quickly take a look at your post because I needed to see more! Huzzah to finding it on sale too!

Oooooh I’m so envious Amber that you got the dress. It so pretty and now I want it (even though it wouldn’t really fit me very well). xx

Ambert,
This is really the kind of dress, material and prints I used to sew for myself a long time ago. I still love it and the colours your chose are absolutely beautiful. Good taste young lady!

I’m glad Rubin is doing well. This look is breathtaking! Nicely done, using the cardigan to play it down. You are inspirational!

Best of luck to Rubin tomorrow! I love seeing your photos of him – he looks quite the adorable happy boy! And you can never go wrong with a floral dress on a summer day!

Oooh I LOVE Chi Chi London dresses, but I’m always a bit scared about ordering stuff from overseas, and I haven’t found anywhere in NZ that sells it yet. I HAVE bought things from UK before, but you have to be really sure you’ll like it, and double check your measurements, because postage back is hella expensive! One of our biggest online stores has just started selling Phase 8 dresses, and it’s making a bit of a dent in my budget. I order some and tell myself I’m only going to try them, and I’ll only keep one and send the rest back, but somehow they all end up staying!
Hope Rubin’s operation goes OK *hugs*

I’m so sorry to hear that Rubin has been poorly and needs an operation, that must be very worrying for you. Best of luck for the little fella, and I hope that you and Terry manage not to worry too much and keep the positive vibes going. xx
