Friday Five (+ a pink chiffon skirt)

pink chiffon skirt with black boat neck sweaterGood news, folks: we have a new source of Friday Five questions!

This was suggested by Miss Kitty, who commented on last week’s post to let me know about another blog posting weekly questions: which seem much more interesting than “what would you take to a desert island” style questions I’d been getting from the original FF sites, so I’m going to go with this one instead, and just carefully ignore the fact that they’re actually supposed to be answered on a Monday. Whoops. Such a rebel I am, to be sure.

Anyway, here are this week’s questions, which you’re welcome to post your own responses to in the comments, because I’m nosey like that…

Facial or massage?

Ideally neither, to be honest. I’m so very shy and socially awkward that most of the beauty treatments other people find relaxing just end up being the exact opposite of that for me. I mean, being stuck in a room, in close proximity to a complete stranger, who’s also going to try to TOUCH you? It’s not exactly the shy girl’s dream, is it? If I HAD to pick one, though, I’d go for the facial, purely because massages seem so much more awkward to me, given that I’m led to believe I’d be expected to be naked for the duration. Granted, most of my knowledge of massages comes from watching Phoebe on Friends, though, so maybe there’s a fully-clothed version you can get: I wouldn’t know, as I’ve never actually had one, and am completely fine with that.

I have, however, had a couple of facials in my time, and although I’ve been left feeling fairly underwhelmed by the results (i.e. my skin has looked exactly the same as before), they weren’t too traumatic, and I got to keep my clothes on, so I guess I’d go for one of those. Under duress.

High heels or tennis shoes?

I don’t really need to answer that, do I? High heels all the way, sister! (For those of you who think I can’t possibly walk in them, there’s a post about that here, just for you…)

Big earrings or big rings?

Again, neither really: I’m super-lazy about jewellery, and mostly just wear my wedding/engagement rings and a watch (Which all have to be removed the second I set foot in the house. In the same way that it feels weird to most people to wear shoes indoors, it feels really strange to me to wear jewellery around the house, for some reason…). I don’t actually have my ears pierced, though (I know, shocking, huh? I just never got round to it, and given that I don’t wear a lot of jewellery, I don’t really feel the need to get it done now. I feel like I’ve probably missed out on some kind of female right of passage here, but I guess I’d just rather wear my money on my feet than on my earlobes? Everyone’s got their “thing”…), so I’d have to go with big rings, here.

Romance or comedy?

Horror.  I know, I’m an awkward sod, aren’t I?

(If I had to choose, I’d go for romance: comedy has to be really, really good for me to like it…)

The ‘80s or the ‘90s?

The ’90s. Better music, marginally better fashion, and we had the internet by the end of them: whew!

  • I’ve gotten my nails done professionally twice in my life, and they massage your hands before they paint them, and both times they had to keep telling me to relax. It’s not very relaxing, but it’s all kinds of weird. This is how I know I would not like a full body massage!

Glad I could help 🙂 I love seeing your answers for Friday 5, guess I’m just nosey like that too!

    1. Ooh… hard one. I have had both and LOVE them both. Funny really, because as a shy person, I normally hate that kind of close personal interaction with any other person. The trick is to pick a therapist you are comfortable with. Mine knows that I don’t like to chat, so I can just relax and snooze while she is doing wonderful things to my face or back! I guess if I had to pick one, I would go with the facial, because I love how it makes my skin all glowy. And my therapist gives me a head and neck massage during the facial, so it’s two-for-one really 🙂

    2. High heels, absolutely. I hate how dumpy my legs look in tennis shoes.

    3. Glad to find out that I’m not the only person on the planet who hasn’t pierced my ears. I have an absolute phobia of needles, and I guess I just never wanted earrings badly enough to overcome that fear! So it will have to be big rings, although I would prefer smaller, more discreet rings.

    4. Comedy. Something about most romances just make me squirm. They are so unlike real life that I just can’t stand watching them. You could say that about most comedies as well, though! So guess I’m just not a romantic sort.

    5. 90’s, I suppose… I don’t remember much about the 80’s, only being born at the tail end of them, but going by photos, the 90’s definitely had better fashion.
