Edinburgh Christmas market

I know I’ve said it before, but Christmas this year really seemed to be over almost before it begun.

One of the things I’d really wanted to do in December was to take a walk around Edinburgh’s Christmas market, which I posted about last year. Unfortunately we didn’t have time to go before Christmas itself (because we were too busy preparing for Christmas, ironically…), so as this was the last weekend it would be there, we decided to take a trip into the city on Saturday afternoon.

Quite a few of the stalls had already shut up shop for the season, but it was still fun to take a stroll past the ones that were left, and take in the atmosphere of all the funfair rides, ice-rinks, etc. Edinburgh is cold at this time of year (although it wasn’t too bad this weekend, surprisingly!), but it’s so pretty with all of the Christmas lights up, so I’m glad we got a chance to see it, even although we were typically late to the party.

Today should technically be the first day of “normality” after the busyness of the festive season, but Terry’s brother and his wife are visiting from Greece this week (and it’s Terry’s mum’s birthday today, too), so we’ve taken a few extra days off to spend time with them, and prolong the festivities a little longer. I’m at the stage now where I actually WANT to eat healthily, go for a nice, bracing run, and get stuck into those New Year’s goals,  but by the time you read this, I’ll be getting ready for another meal out, so those resolutions are going to have to wait for a few more days. Ah well: the treadmill will still be there next week… unfortunately so will the cupboard full of chocolate and other Christmas treats, so it looks like I’m going to be needing those new workout clothes I decided to stock up on last week!

  • I know how you feel, Amber…Christmas seems to have absolutely flown by this year. I spent so long stressing about getting organised I feel like I missed out on some of the fun!

Your coat and scarf(?) are stunning – where are they from?!

  • I didn’t make it to Edinburgh at Christmas for the first time in years, but I can’t say I mind too much, it’s always so busy! I’m very jealous of your extra time off, have fun! 🙂

  • Gorgeous pics Amber! I loved the Christmas market in Edinburgh when I lived there. So cold but looks like you had a beautiful day there!
Enjoy the rest of your break, those resolutions can wait 😉

  • I did virtually the same thing – I didn’t make it to Cambridge’s outdoor festivities (can’t really call it a market as it’s more rides and a few food stalls) until New Year’s Eve… It’s still nice though and it wasn’t too busy for us either, so there’s something to be said about leaving it until later. Although you do have a real sense of ‘this is all going to end very soon’ which is a bit depressing! But then, I’m writing this on the first working Monday of the year, so I think that’s just my vibe today 😉

  • Christmas did indeed fly by too fast! To be honest, I am a little jealous of that market. Towns in the States don’t seem to do as many activities as they used to, at least where I live. I am still trying to make it out to the ice skating downtown before they close shop. That counts as exercise, right?
