Well, after a couple of weeks of me sulking around the house and declaring that summer was, like, SO LAST SEASON, the sun decided to grace us with its presence again this week, and I SHOULD THINK SO TOO, AUGUST.

It was just in the nick of time, too: I’d been waiting for weeks – WEEKS, people – for an opportunity to stand in the middle of the road in this ASOS dress (Before you go clicking on that link, let me first of all tell you it’s currently sold out. I know. I’ve linked to it anyway, purely because ASOS do sometimes re-stock things, and the only way you’ll know is by obsessively checking the site every few minutes to see if your size is available yet. Not that I’ve ever done that myself, you understand: I’ve just heard about it. On the internet. Ahem.), and finally my time had come.

This dress is one of three I have in this exact shape, so I guess you could say I’m a fan. (I guess you could ALSO say I’m a shopaholic, but you know, please don’t: I already know…) As much as I love the shape, though, it’s kind of an awkward one in terms of fit. There’s a huge amount of excess fabric around the pocket/stomach area, for instance, which is great for hiding the belly, but also great for making you LOOK like you’re hiding your belly, which can make people wonder if you’re anticipating a happy event.

Also, in its natural state (In the “wild”, if you will…) this dress is what I think of as a TRUE midi. Most of the dresses and skirts people refer to as “midi length” these days are actually knee-length, or just below the knee. When ASOS describe something as a “midi”, however, they really mean it, so the dress hits right at that tricky mid-calf point. That’s not the most flattering length on me, so I buy these dresses with the knowledge that I’ll have to have them hemmed, at the very least, and maybe some other alterations besides. For that reason, when this one first crossed my radar, I didn’t rush to buy, it.

“I’ll wait a few weeks,” I told myself, as I added it to my ASOS ‘saved’ list, “And if I STILL want it then, I’ll think about buying it.”

Cut to a couple of days later, when I happened to check the ASOS website and noticed that the dress had sold out… in every size except mine. Uh-oh.

There’s nothing makes me want something more than the knowledge I can’t have it, so in order to save myself the trouble of the aforementioned constant refreshing of the ASOS website, so I went ahead and bought it.  And I’m pretty sure I got the last one they had, because as soon as I added it to my basket, it was completely sold out. It truly was The Last of the Wiggle Dresses.

Anyway, it DID have to be hemmed, so I couldn’t wear it right away, and then I started to think I would’t get to wear it AT ALL this year because of the weather, so I was very pleased to be able to “debut” it this week. Now I’m just crossing all of my fingers and toes, and hoping September will be kind to us: mostly because I currently have a giant white midi skirt on its way to me, and… it’s totally fine to wear a giant white skirt in September, right? RIGHT?

  • I love this dress on you! And you have such a cute little figure that no one is going to think you are hiding a tummy (or a tiny person) under there. You should definitely stock up on some more wiggle dresses. 🙂

  • Beautiful dress! A blue and white floraly print will have me swooning every time. I know what you mean about those pleated, pocketed, pegged skirts. I have finally sworn off of them for the belly pooch they create on me, but they sure are gorgeous from the front.

  • I adore this dress it’s gorgeous! And I’m so happy you got to wear it. I personally have nothin against you wearing a giant white skirt in September and think if you could find some sparkly tights that depending on the skirt you could pull it off for a winter white theme which would be gorgeous.

  • Another envy-inducing dress Amber!! I loved your comment about not being able to have something making you want it, I’m wired that way too and will get obsessive over restocking checks, but something gorgeous that’s completely available will just make me go ‘hmm, maybe’. Anyway, glad you liked my charity shop hauls – I am going to tackle the white and green spot dress this weekend with my trusty sewing machine, mwah hah hah!! x

Gorgeous dress! I love the red heels with it. We’ve yet to have our summer resurgence down on the south coast. I live in hope!

How are you feeling about all of these autumn florals in the shops at the moment, Amber? I’m quite excited, but then I have to wear dark colours – so finally my floral moment has come. 😉

I discovered a lot of things from your blog. Wiggle dress is one of the many things you’ve inspired me. It’s more flattering than I ever imagined. I love wiggle dress so much that I bought their textured dress in blue (you got it in green) too. Last Saturday, I got last of the wiggle dress in pretty floral print. It went out of stock so I obsessively refresh their website for a week or longer. These wiggles dresses made of 100% cotton are the best friends of our tropical climate here. The textured dress isn’t the best fabric for temperature ranges between 20° and 35° and high humidity year round. I hope they release more summer friendly dresses.

Hi, I’m looking for reviews of ASOS Wiggle Dress and landed in your website. The dress is truly a beauty and it looks really good on you. Pretty!
I want to ask regarding sizing, what size did you choose for this dress? And if it’s okay, what is your measurements (bust, waist, hip)? So that I can compare to mine and get the right size for me since I won’t be able to return the item though ASOS provide free returns. (I’m living in a country which bureucracy is just suck!)

Thank you and I am looking forward to your reply!
