OUTFIT | Dotty Culotte-y
Because I have my finger right on the fashion pulse – not – and therefore rarely manage to scramble aboard the trend bandwagon until it’s well and truly left the station, I finally bought a pair of culottes.
They cost me £5. Last of the big spenders, huh?
To be honest, though, £5 was all I was really willing to spend on this particular style experiment, because, even as I pressed the “Buy Now” button, I had a sneaking suspicion that I’d just ordered myself a pair of giant, wide-legged pants, and that I would not like it. Sure enough, when the package arrived, I pulled them out, looked at them, and was like, “Huh: a pair of giant, wide-legged pants. Why did I?”
They were here now, though, so I gamely tried them on, and, once again had that, “I am wearing a pair of giant pants and I don’t know why?” feeling. Then I remembered that I live in the land of permanent breezes, and that it’s never, ever not windy (Seriously, I don’t even know why I bother combing my hair before taking photos? Like, why do I do that?!), and suddenly the idea of trousers that look like a skirt seemed like a pretty good idea.
Now that I’ve actually worn them, I stand by that conclusion. It was super windy when we took these photos, just for a change, and although I lost the battle to keep my hair out of my face in most of them, at least I didn’t have to worry about inadvertently flashing my knickers at random passers-by – which is a real concern for me, most days. I also discovered that, as there’s quite a lot of fabric in them, unless I adopt a super-hero stance, with my legs more than shoulder-width apart (And honestly, how many times a day do YOU choose to stand like a super-hero? I’m thinking maybe 5, max – 7 on a good day…), they just look like a midi skirt, anyway – and heaven forbid there be a polka-dot midi-skirt in the world that I don’t own, huh?
So, culottes, welcome to my wardrobe. I may even buy some more pairs of you one day, when you’re long, long out of fashion…[separator type=”thin”]
