So, summer colds: they’re the worst, aren’t they?

I mean, they’re not the WORST worst. They’re not the worst in the way genocide, say, is the worst. Or starving children. Or any of those WORSTWORST things people like to lecture me about any time I get a head cold and go full-on drama queen because of it. They are the worst in the way that not sleeping for four days straight because you just can’t breathe when you lie down, and feeling like you’re trying to run underwater any time you attempt to move from your huddled position on the couch is the worst, though, and that’s pretty much what the last week has been like for me. It was my annual summer cold, so I guess this is my annual post complaining about it.

Don’t worry, though, I don’t actually have much more to say about the head-cold from hell, because it’s almost gone now, so it’s just memories, people, memories. These photos were taken on the first day I actually left the house after my ordeal, which, coincidentally, was also the first time all week I’d worn something other than workout clothes. In retrospect, a pink chiffon skirt possibly wasn’t the best choice for such a windy day, but, then again, they’re pretty much ALL windy days around these parts, and I was only outdoors while we took the photos, so it was all good. I did end up with a “hair moustache” in quite a few shots, obviously, but that’s pretty standard for me, so what can you do?

Anyway, my week of sickness-that-wasn’t-the-worst-sickness-but-which-still-sucked-anyway has left me with even less conversation than I usually have and I’ve also started wittering on about hair moustaches (you should see me at a party, seriously: I just start talking about any old rubbish to fill the awkward silences that come up. I’ll be all, “So! I see you have… light switches in your house! We have light switches, too! Handy, aren’t they? So much easier than having to carry a paraffin lamp around at night, like in the olden days! Not that I remember those days, obviously, but I can imagine them, and…” And so on and so forth. And that’s why I don’t get invited to parties no more.), so I’m just going to leave it there, and let you get back to whatever you were doing before I barged in with my talk of chiffon skirts and head colds…

  • I used to have a Primark version of this bag and I literally used it every day to work until it disintegrated. And now, seeing yours, I miss it all over again. WAH! Also, that shade of peachy-pink is perfection and I’m glad you’re feeling better now. I had a similar cold right at the start of the warmer weather and just couldn’t believe my bad luck. No one else in the whole world had a cold and I still managed to get one!

  • I’ve always love, love, LOVED the look of a pink chiffon skirt in both winter and summer and I’ve NEVER bought one. I have no clue why. Maybe I’m just waiting for the perfect one. Your handbag is so adorable. I kind of just want to steal this entire outfit.

  • I’d say the chiffon skirt was the perfect choice for such a windy day. It really shows the movement of the garment. Such pretty, whimsical shots. Glad to hear you’re feeling better. Hope whatever lingering symptoms you have clear up soon!

  • Oo you’ve just reminded me that I have a chiffon skirt, in red, and I should really give it an outing. I’d like to wait for a non-windy day though as I’ve already flashed my knickers at the neighbour when pegging washing out last week (no hands free and a sudden gust meant my dress was suddenly around my neck…). Still, on the upside, the neighbour gave us some cucumbers and spring onions. If I flash him in the chiffon maybe he’ll give us some of those tomatoes I have my eye on…

I’m sorry you’ve a head cold. Get well soon!

And trust me, light switches? Actually fascinating. I’m remodelling and I can talk for *at least* 20 minutes about the proper placement of light switches.

  • Ugh, the whole-not-being-able-to-breath-lying-down-sleeping-sitting-up gig is the worst. Glad you are feeling better! I do love that shade of pink for your outfit, and call me crazy, but I really love your top too. It seems like one of those great basics I’m always wanting, but haven’t found yet. 🙂 ❤

  • Hi Amber, The pick skirt and white top combo really suit you. I think you should wear more pastel colour combo – however I’m not telling you what to wear. xx
