Rainy Days and Mondays

outfit for a rainy autumn day

Camel trench coat and gold heels

autumn outfit for a rainy day

First of all, can I just say how happy I am to finally have a legitimate excuse to use ‘Rainy Days and Mondays’ as a post title? And OK, these  photos weren’t actually TAKEN on a Monday, but they ARE being posted on one, and it WAS a rainy day, so that’s all the excuse I need!

Secondly, remember that outerwear-buying binge I went on last month? With the biker jacket, and the OTHER biker jacket, and the mint green coat? I might have forgotten to mention this trench coat, which was also part of the whole GIVE ME ALL THE COATS thing. And by that, of course, I mean I didn’t forget at all, I was honestly just too embarrassed to mention it, in case you all tried to send me to Outerwear Rehab or something.  (To which I would obviously say “no, no, no…”)

On the plus side, now that I’ve bought more outerwear than was really necessary, my autumn/winter shopping is pretty much complete, and I won’t need to buy anything else until May. (Calm down, I said I won’t NEED to, not that I won’t do it anyway…) Also, in my defense, I’d been intending to buy a new trench coat for absolutely ages, because my existing one was starting to look a bit tired, and there’s nothing worse than a tired old trench coat, is there? It was also a bit of an awkward shape, having a Peter Pan style collar and cuffed sleeves: I loved it when I bought it, but for a while now I’ve wanted something a bit more classic in shape, and this Zara trench seemed to fit the bill.

I also chose this one because of the camel colour, which I love (I think the colour in my photos is truer-to-life than the ones on the Zara website, which make it look more beige…), and the fact that it has a water-resistant, rain-coat style finish, rather than the cotton/twill one most of the alternatives I looked at had, so it’ll hopefully be a bit more practical for all those rainy days. And Mondays.

What would’ve been even more awesome here, of course, would’ve been if I’d remembered to bring my umbrella: a thought which occurred to me roughly ten minutes after I left the house, and at approximately the same time the rain started. Oh, well: you can’t have everything! And I think I can say with some authority that there will be plenty more rainy days to come…

Well, I love the coat and as something of a coataholic (yes, last month I bought ten coats. In August. Yes, I may have issues), I think a trench coat is an essential piece of outerwear.

Ha, that makes me feel a bit better! I guess when coats are the only part of your outfit people actually see for so much of the year, it makes sense to have a variety!

Coates are exactly what I am obsessing over at the minute! But I can’t find any that I like and was unsure what style I wanted to go for. You have totally sold me on a trench coat! I love That look on you and I have been hankering after one since I stayed in claridges and they let you borrow a a Burberry one for your stay! Alas I couldn’t afford to buy one… Zara may be possible though 🙂

Oh God, a Burberry one would be The Ultimate! My mum found a secondhand one a few months ago an antiques fair they visit which also has some clothes stalls: can’t remember how much she paid, but it was something ridiculous, and it truly is a thing of beauty – I was gutted they didn’t have any in my size!

Awww…man… I freaking love coats. I’ve always wanted a trench coat but I don’t think the colour would suit me. You, however, look fab.

Oh yes…the trench coat. So iconic and flattering. Looks great on you of course! One of my only regrets of moving to the tropics is missing autumn and all the wonderful winterwear *sigh* but I shall live vicariously through you. Many more happy rainy Mondays to you!

That is very classic looking trench coat! Hopefully you get a lot of wears out of it 🙂
I kind of slack on other necessities for my closet, except for outerwear! And I don’t even live in an area where they get much use :/

I’ve been a(n adoring) fan for some time now, but commenting for the first time. So, hello, Amber! Your blog is one of my absolute favorite reads.

Ok, first, your coat is completely fabulous. Perfectly classic.

Second (you’re going to hate me for this), but I really am so envious of your rain. I know, I know. I am thoroughly one of THOSE people. But I have good reason. I live in Southern California and we are currently in the midst of a terrible, lengthy drought and a very, very hot year. In fact, the whole state is on fire.

Actually, this morning we did have some “rain.” (Drippy, pathetic stuff.) But it was ALSO STILL HOT. While it was raining. At 9am. This may be normal for other states, but not for California. Really not ok. We don’t have AC so most of the time I just sit in front of the fan and complain about how hot it is. While reading Forever Amber, of course.

I have this sneaking suspicion you might really love this weather we’re having. Sunny and hot every day. Perfect beach weather all the time. Ok, I’m sorry if I’ve just depressed you…please don’t hate me…

I love trenches so so so much. I really want one, but my climate does not indicate that I need one. But I want a trench anyway!

I am strongly considering buying this trench. How warm is it?
