Red Gingham Skirt Day 2015
Gingham on the bottom half, this exact shirt on the top: I wore this same combination just a few weeks ago (only with trousers, rather than a skirt), and I’m pretty sure I’ll wear it again before the summer’s over, because you all know me: when I find something I like, I beat it into the ground. Then I beat it some more.
I guess another theme I’m beating into the ground here is the “wearing this skirt every summer without fail” thing. I’m on year four now, and I’d post all the previous year’s photos here too, but I’m too embarrassed to, because I always wear it pretty much the same way – i.e. with a white top of some description, and either red or neutral shoes. In my defence, as much as I love it, it’s not exactly the most versatile skirt in the whole world, which is one reason why I haven’t come up with endless different ways to wear it. Or even TWO different ways to wear it, really. This is why I call myself a “personal style blogger” rather than a “fashion” blogger. It’s also why I call myself “lazy” sometimes. Well, if the (red or neutral) shoe fits…
Actually, rather than being embarrassed by my failure to “remix” this skirt adequately, I’m thinking I could just try and pretend that was my plan all along. (Or I could if I hadn’t just admitted that it wasn’t. This is also the reason I’m not a master villain. It’s all coming out today, isn’t it?) Like, I could tell you that every year on a certain day, I like to wear (almost) exactly the same outfit, so that gradually, over time I’ll build up year-by-year record of my life, as told by photos of this same red gingham skirt. It would be like when people who are in the process of losing weight always take photos in the same outfit to show their progress, only instead of getting thinner, I’ll just get older, and more wrinkly. It’ll actually be kinda depressing, now I come to think of it. Yes.
OK, so that’s the lamest idea ever (which is unsurprising, given that I made it up on the spot), but hey, at least it took your mind off the fact that I dress exactly the same, year after year, huh? So I hereby name August 3rd ‘Red Gingham Skirt Day’. On this day, red-gingham-skirt-owners across the world will wear their skirts with pride – and ideally with some kind of white top and red-or-neutral shoes, because that would make me feel better. Thanks, everyone.
Oh, and there’s still time to join in, by the way! Got a red gingham skirt? Throw it on, snap a photo… er, hashtag it #redginghamskirtday ! You know you want to!*
* It’s OK, I know you don’t want to…
