The Green Lady

Trashy Diva watrecolour skirt

green floral skirt with boatneck topIf I was a character in Game of Thrones, I’d probably be known as The Green Lady.

Well, either that or “Silvertongue”, which is what my mum called me during a raging argument one time, many years ago. It was a bit awkward, really: I mean, I REALLY wanted to keep arguing with her, because she was OMG, SO WRONG, but it’s pretty hard to keep a straight face when someone’s just non-ironically called you “Silvertongue”, you know? (My dad, meanwhile, just calls me “Skin”. Don’t ask…)

Actually, scratch all of that: if I was a character in Game of Thrones, I’d have died in season one – probably in EPISODE ONE, if we’re being honest, because, let’s face it, A Girl is not cut out for such shenanigans, is she?

(Side note: ‘shenanigans’ is my current favourite word. I would like to live a life filled with shenanigans. )

All of this is to say that yes, it’s another outfit featuring a green floral skirt – and I wore exactly the same top with both of them. And no, I don’t really care about the repetition, because when there are green floral skirts in the world, and sunny days to wear them on, who am I to resist that calling? Exactly.

I wore this outfit last weekend, when we stopped off at The Burrell Collection, on our way home from the Apple store, where I was having my smashed-up iPhone screen replaced. I haven’t visisted The Burrell Collection since I was a little girl, and it’s soon going to be closing temporarily while they carry out some repairs to the building, so that was as good an excuse as any for a quick visit.

As you can see from the photos above, it was another absolutely beautiful day – and as you can see from the photo below, I STILL haven’t learned how to keep my eyes open while I’m having my photo taken. Seriously, we took a whole bunch of photos inside the building that houses the collection, and this was the only one my eyes weren’t totally closed in. Will I EVER learn? Is there some kind of trick to it that I’m just not aware of? Or do I actually walk around with my eyes closed most of the time, and I just haven’t realised it yet? I wish I knew…

You and I have the same problem when it comes to keeping eyes open in photos, actually it’s kind of a relief to see another blogger bring this up. My way of getting around this issue is to just take A LOT of photos and hope that out of 500 there are 5 where my eyes are actually open. However the downside of concentrating so hard on keeping me eyes open means that my facial expression looks stern/anxious. But really though – I know the struggle.

When I used to be a family photographer, this happened a lot with the moms (stressful situation!) and a trick that sometimes worked was having them close their eyes for a couple seconds, relax, I’d count to 3 out loud, and take the photo right on 3 as their eyes opened. I did this with my mom too who suffers from “wild-eyed deer syndrome” in photos haha.
