The Start of Summer

yellow field in summer
This week it finally felt like summer.

And I know – it’s only the start of June: calm down, Amber – it’s not like it’s super-late or something. Because we didn’t get much of a summer last year, though (by which I mean we didn’t get one AT ALL…), and spring didn’t really show up either, it feels like this summer’s been a long time coming, and I for one couldn’t be happier it’s finally here.

So far this week, I’ve:

[icon size=”18″ icon=”icon-tick” display=”true” ][/icon] Toasted marshmallows on a fire.

[icon size=”18″ icon=”icon-tick” display=”true” ][/icon] Sat outside drinking wine in the hazy evening sun.

[icon size=”18″ icon=”icon-tick” display=”true” ][/icon]  Had a daytrip to the seaside, complete with picnic. (Photos to come. Obviously. Because if you have a day out, but you don’t blog about it, did it even happen?)

[icon size=”18″ icon=”icon-tick” display=”true” ][/icon]  Applied copious amounts of sunscreen.

[icon size=”18″ icon=”icon-tick” display=”true” ][/icon]  Found a pretty yellow field to take photos in.

[icon size=”18″ icon=”icon-tick” display=”true” ][/icon]  Worn lots of summery dresses and skirts – although not all at the same time.

[icon size=”18″ icon=”icon-tick” display=”true” ][/icon]   Sat on the swing in Terry’s mum’s beautiful garden, which she’s spent the past few weeks totally re-doing – it’s looking amazing!

[icon size=”18″ icon=”icon-tick” display=”true” ][/icon] Driven with the roof down every single day.

[icon size=”18″ icon=”icon-tick” display=”true” ][/icon] Dropped my iPhone on the road in front of our friends’ house, and smashed the screen to smithereens.

OK, so that last one wasn’t actually part of the plan to squeeze the entire summer into one short week, but the rest of it was, and I think we did pretty well, all things considered. Well, our summers are short here, and they’re often totally non-existent, so when you finally get to see the sun, you have to try to cram in as much as you can, before it disappears on you. Sure enough, next week’s forecast is for rain every day, so one day we’ll look back on the photos in this post, and say, “Awww, remember the summer of 2016? That day was awesome!”

Of course, we’ll ALSO probably look back on these photos and say, “Aww, look! That’s Amber’s iPhone in her hand, just minutes before she smashed it to pieces in the hot summer of 2016!” That won’t be such a great memory, although, that said, Terry DOES seem to getting quite a lot of pleasure out of looking smug and pretending like HE’S never broken anything in his life, even although he spilled an entire glass of Diet Coke over the cream carpet in the office just a few weeks ago. Ahem.

We have an appointment at the Genius Bar this weekend. Wish us luck…

Amber, you look lovely, and I love the yellow fields! I’m actually in Edinburgh for the first time to visit a friend, and we couldn’t have asked for better weather!

  • But, what?? How have you got summer in Scotland and we’ve still got winter down here?! That’s not how it’s supposed to be, World. It’s honestly so poor over here, although having spoken to Porcelina recently I don’t think the same applies to Wales. What’s your deal, England?! I’ve been on a photoshoot (get me) the last few days and the weather was so bad we had to take shots in the pouring rain, whipping away umbrellas at the moment of a snap. Oh and it’s also freezing. Have I complained enough yet? In short: please send some of this my way. Thanks 😀

  • This is such a picturesque scene. I love these photos, it looks like a gorgeous day and you look so serene in that sea of flowers. I hope Scottish summer is kind this year and you get more days like this. Hope your phone gets well soon!

  • Good luck at the Genius Bar!

But seriously, where’s our summer? Currently 13 degrees here in Suffolk 🙁 I have all these new summer clothes, and it’s too cold to wear them and I am still in a jumper, boots and a coat *cries*

Glad you’ve got summer, we had ours last weekend, but it’s wet and cold winter again since then. We’re hoping for another bout of sunshine tomorrow. Just read an article that says Scotland is to have its hottest summer in 40 years. Guess where we’re holidaying this year. Enjoy

  • Wow, you really know how to make the most of warm weather! I should take note, it’s been super hot here all week and all I’ve done is try to not melt and eat lots of ice cream.
