Three Affordable Sweaters for What’s Left of Winter
So, before we go any further, I’m just going to address the elephant in the room here: yes, I have totally failed in my so-called spending diet. Totally.
I really, really wish I could say I’m surprised by this, but honestly? Not really. Or at all, even. The fact is, I enjoy shopping AND my job basically requires me to look at retail websites every single day. It would take a much stronger woman than I am to be able to keep on resisting everything she sees there – especially when the sales are on – so while I DO still intend to try my hardest to limit my fashion-related spending from now on, this is me holding my hands up and admitting that yes, I failed, and, no, I’m not proud. Don’t be like me, kids. Or, rather, maybe DO be like me just this one time, because lookit these three cute sweaters I found in Matalan this week, and justified on the basis that I really, really needed some new knitwear to get myself through the rest of winter. No, really, I did! OK, not really… but they were cute? And I’m weak? And … I’ll stop talking and just show you the things, shall I?
OK, well, first up, we have this guy:
Yes, folks, you may say I’m a dreamer, but you’d be totally right about that – AND I have the sweater to prove it. It’s a cotton/acrylic mix, so it’s probably not going to be your lifelong closet companion, that you end up one day passing down to your grandkids, let’s be honest here. I’m a bit of a sucker for slogan sweaters, though, so I was willing to overlook that, especially given that the materials are reflected in the price. It’s still a nice, serviceable sweater, though, which has been working overtime for me this week, while I’ve been stuck at my desk all the time, and just wanting to wear something comfortable.
I’m also a sucker for anything even vaguely “nautical”, as longtime readers will attest, so I couldn’t resist this one, either. This is a bit thinner than the first knit, so I’ll probably get more wear out of it in spring (and, OK, probably summer too, knowing our luck with the weather), but I love the little anchors, which will work really well with all of my many, many red, white and blue items of clothing. Oh, and even although I just bought this last week, I see it’s now on sale, reduced to £6, and almost sold out online: gah!
I really have no excuse at all for this one. I already have more cable-knit sweaters than I can count (I mean, I COULD actually count them if I wanted to, but let’s not go there, OK?), and not even I can seriously claim to have needed another one. I bought it anyway, though, because I don’t really think there’s a number of cable-knit sweater’s I’d consider to be excessive, all things considered, and because, even although I have a few of them now, these are one of the items I DO actually wear on the regular (as opposed to all of those prom dresses I keep buying, say…), so before you judge me, try walking a mile in my cable-knit sweater, and them you, too, will see how soft and snuggly it is, and you won’t want to take it off. I’m wearing it right now, actually. SO THERE.
(Unfortunately I can’t seem to find this online now, even although, again, I just bought it. Have a look for it in store, though, and you might just get lucky!)
And NOW I will re-start the shopping diet!*
