While I was putting my makeup on, in preparation for taking the photos for this post, I managed to…
a) Wrench out a couple of eyelashes with my normally well-behaved eyelash curler: OUCH.
b) Poking myself in the eye with an eyeliner pencil. TWICE.
Luckily, this post is about lips, not eyes, so I soldiered on regardless (Albeit minus the eyeliner: no way was I revisiting the scene of that particular crime…), but, well, this is why there haven’t been too many beauty posts around here lately. I was quite surprised to see how popular the beauty category was in my new and improved mailing list, though, and I just so happened to have these Lord & Berry lipsticks sitting on my dressing table, just waiting to be reviewed, so here they are:
These are both from Lord & Berry’s ‘Timeless’ Kissproof lipstick range, which offers a longwear formula with a matte finish which DOESN’T dry out your lips: amaze! I’m wearing ‘Brave Red’ in the photos above: it looked a little dark to me in the tube, but is actually one of those bright, classic reds I love so much, and, true to the product description, it does indeed have a totally matte finish. The other colour I was sent is called ‘Bold Red”, and it’s a much brighter, more orange based red:
For me, this one was a bit too orange, but it’s a shade I think would suit a lot of different complexions, and it’s a good one for summer, too… just maybe not for me.
So, what’s it like to use?
Pretty much as you’d expect from the description on the website, actually: you just need one thin coat to get awesome, matte coverage, which goes on really smoothly, and doesn’t feel remotely sticky or drying, like many other longwear formulas. I do find liquid formulas quite tricky to apply, due to my complete lack of a defined lipline, but, with that said, I find pretty much ALL lip colours hard to apply because of that, and I really like the fact that this one is super-smooth, and doesn’t drag while you’re applying it. As for the staying power, it’s also pretty good: I had to use makeup remover to get the first colour off in order to apply the second one, and, once its on, I find it’ll last for several hours without having to be reapplied. It was no match, however, for the giant plate of spaghetti I had on Saturday night, after which I was left with a bit of a “ring of shame” where the colour had worn off in the middle of my lips, but held on around the edges: whoops! I think that’s to be expected with most lipcolours, though, so no biggie!
Overall, I’d recommend this for anyone who loves that classic matte red lipped look – and next time I wear it, I promise I’ll try my best not to poke my eye out, first…
[P.S. I also recommend the top I’m wearing in these photos, which is from ASOS: for some reason, it looks white in both my photos and theirs, but it’s actually a very pale pink, so be aware of that if you’re ordering!]
