A White Blazer on a Budget
For me, I think 2016 will be remembered as The Year of the Blazer.
Well, that’s what I’ll call it when I’m being polite about it, anyway. The rest of the time, it’ll just be “That ^%&*$”* terrible year.” Because, yeah, it’s been a bad one so far, huh?
But blazers, though! Blazers are not bad, or, indeed, sad. Blazers are freakin’ awesome, in fact, which is why I’ve been practically living in them this year. They dress up jeans, they keep you warm when you’re wearing a sleeveless dress: there’s just no end to their talents, really.
There’s just one problem: blazers can be a bit pricey. (Er, especially when you buy as many of them as I do.) Which is why, having had this Uniqulo one on my wish list for a few months now, when I saw it had been reduced to £14.90 in the sale, I figured it was now or never.
Now, there’s one important thing to note about this, if you’re thinking of buying it, and that’s the small, but important fact, that it’s not actually a real blazer. No, this, my friends, is what Uniqlo call a “cardigan jacket”, and what you or I would call, “an unlined jersey blazer”. In other words, it’s not going to be warm enough for a really cold day, and it’s probably not structured enough to wear to the office… assuming that people wear blazers to offices now, that is. I obviously wear workout clothes or pyjamas to the “office”, so I wouldn’t know.
So, this is the blazer-that-isn’t-a-blazer, then. Only, it really IS sort of like a blazer , isn’t it? I’ve been wearing it with the same things I’d wear any of my “real” blazers with: it looks pretty much the same, and although it’s not quite as warm, the fact that it wasn’t expensive means I don’t have to worry too much about spilling something on it and ruining it. Which, let’s face is, is bound to happen, sooner or later: it always does…
