Remember my ‘Holes in My Closet’ post? The one I really wish I’d called something else now, because any time I have to refer back to it, I get that stupid ‘There’s a Hole in My Bucket’ nursery rhyme lodged in my head, and sometimes it takes a couple of days to shift it? A couple of days in which I walk around inanely singing (in my own head, obviously), “There’s a hole in my closet, my closet, my closet! There’s a hole in my closet, my closet, a hole!” ARGH.
Are you all singing that song now? OK, well, the good news is that there’s now one less hole in my
bucket closet, because this week I managed to fill the “white cropped cardigan” shaped hole, with this little number, which is from New Look, of all places. (Er, the bad news is that you’ll be singing that song forever now, sorry. And I guess the good news is only really good for me, isn’t it? Well, this is awkward…)
Now, New Look is a store I’ve been pretty much ignoring for a few years now. It’s not that I have anything against it, it’s just that it somehow managed to go from being a store I couldn’t walk past without buying yet another pair of shoes from, to a store I… just walk past. It just dropped off the radar, basically, and I’m actually not sure quite how it got back ON the radar again, but for some reason I found myself on the New Look website last week, and there it was: the perfect cropped white cardigan. It’s always in the last place you look, isn’t it? (Because if it was in the FIRST place you looked, you wouldn’t have to keep looking, D’UH.)
As it happens, I probably WILL keep looking in this case, because while this cardigan is exactly what I was looking for in terms of shape and fit (If I didn’t know better, I’d have assumed it was from a retro-repro brand: they’re normally the only ones I can depend on to make cardigans that aren’t all saggy and sad looking…), it IS very much a summer cardigan, so the elbow-length sleeves and thin cotton won’t be much use in the winter. Not that it’ll matter, mind you: I actually tend to reserve my white cardigans for the spring/summer months (That’s not a “rule”, by the way, it’s just the way it normally works out), and I also tend to wreck them by the end of the summer, too. That’s why although I’m striking this item off my list for now, I’ll keep on looking – I just know that by the end of the summer it’ll be more yellow than white, and probably stained with something, too. Probably sunscreen. That’s what normally happens to the white cardigans I collect.
(That’s also why I should have bought two, obviously.)
Anyway, it’s just occurred to me that this is quite possibly the most boring post I’ve ever written here, and that’s up against some stiff competition, but seeing as I started this whole “closet holes” thing, I thought I may as well update you when the holes get filled, too. So, consider yourselves updated!
