Window of Opportunity

autumn outfit featuring green biker k=jacket and trousers

I liked this jacket so much I bought it in two colours: this bottle green and the tan version that’s still available. Yeah, I know: I went a bit crazy with the ol’ biker jackets this season, huh? Those things are like buses, though: you don’t have any at all for YEARS, and then three come along all at once…

As much as I love them, though, the problem with biker jackets and the British weather is that the window of opportunity in which you can actually wear the aforementioned jackets is so pitifully short. Last week, for instance, it was still warm enough (albeit unseasonably so) to not really need a jacket at all. This week, on the other hand? This week it’s almost cold enough to bypass the jackets altogether and head straight into coats-and-boots territory. Damn.

Still, I’m making the most of this sweet spot of perfect biker-jacket weather while I still can. I actually had quite a few outfits planned featuring this particular jacket (Honestly, I just didn’t realise how much I needed a dark green biker jacket in my life until I actually had one…), so I’m keeping everything crossed that it stays warm enough for me to wear them. And if not, well, I DO have a thermal vest, is all I’m saying. And I’m not too proud to wear it, either.

In other news, today is the day we’re having the hall floor dug up, which I’m sure will be about as much fun as it sounds, i.e. no fun at all.  I wouldn’t know for sure, though, because I’m having to vacate the premises for the duration of the work (Partly because Rubin will lose his tiny mind when he realises there are MEN! In his HOUSE! But also because the part of the hall they need to dig up is right at the bottom of the stairs, so if I stay here, I’ll be trapped upstairs for hours, with no working bathrooms. Which would certainly be one way to make an already fun-free experience even LESS fun, don’t you think?), so by the time you read this, I’ll be out wandering the streets like a little lost soul. Nah, I’m kidding: I’ll be at my parents’ place. Or possibly at TK Maxx. Well, I have to go SOMEWHERE while the hall’s being dug up, don’t I?

Anyway, as un-fun as today will be, I’m very much looking forward to having the full complement of working bathrooms again, and also to being able to clean my floors. I’ve missed that.

  • I adore that jacket, and I never knew how much I needed a biker jacket until I saw you wearing one. And I just watched Buffy the Vampire the Slayer the movie, and when she pairs Pikes jacket with her formal dress it’s too perfect.
And of course you should go to Tk Maxx now that your floors will be fixed and you don’t have to pay for it, you need those boots from yesterday.

  • YES! I looked at my (faux) leather biker yesterday & thought hmmm when will I get to wear you? It’s a little over the top for the kids park & soon going to be too cold unless I can shoehorn it over a thick jumper & add a million scarves!!

I wear mine as much as I can, which is a lot in Manchester. However, I did walk out of my house this morning and nearly ran back for my suede wool lined biker jacket!

  • I’m not sure how much wear I’d get out of a green biker jacket personally, but it looks absolutely fab on you (and with that outfit!). I’m in love with my black one though, and I wore it lots last year as well, so I actually bought a white one, and now I’ve been too afraid (kind of?) to wear it. It’s just, uhm, very white. And now Summer is gone, and so is my window of opportunity to wear that one. I’m stupid.

  • I am a big fan of green leather jackets – or at least I have to be, as mine is olive green. It’s a colour some would hate, always turns out to surprisingly go with everything… Agreed that there’s only about one week in the year I can actually wear it, and this year I’ve chosen to holiday in Spain during it. By the time I return tomorrow evening, I’m pretty sure we’ll be in full blown winter. Damnit. Meanwhile, I don’t think the Spaniards have any idea what autumn is either – considering right now it’s 30 degree sunshine. Oh, I’m going to get a shock tomorrow… This comment turned out to almost entirely be about the weather and not about clothes – apologies!!

  • Well I sure didn’t know so much green could work so well together! What a great outfit… and those Casadei heels… ah!

  • Love this outfit! I had a navy leather coat made for me last year and I’ve been thinking about getting a green one ever since – seeing your lovely jacket has made me want one even more now.

  • I absolutely love biker jackets. I had a gorgeous leather one I found at a thrift shop, but unfortunately I fell asleep with around a friends’ new puppy and… that was the end of the jacket. I bought a faux leather one from Free People, but it just wasn’t the same. My biggest problem with the real ones is sometimes they’re so heavy! In the SF Bay Area, I usually end up shedding my jacket halfway through the day, and it’s annoying to carry around a 10 pound coat.

  • I think I need a biker jacket now…! I’m catching up on your posts today so I won’t ask how the hall demolition is going, I think there’s an answer waiting for me… Love the diary section, by the way. 🙂

  • I do that all the time! Bought 2 zara jumpers of different colours just because I couldn’t decide and love the shape too much! Your outfit is gorgeous and love the bag! 🙂

  • cry cry, I want this jacket. I had the girl in RI last week look in all of the stores for me, but to no avail. I do have a grey biker jacket which I don’t wear, so I probably don’t actually *need* it.
