The Winter Dancing Skirt

Well, it rained all weekend.

I mean, it’s rained all MONTH, to be totally honest. But it’s particularly annoying when it rains on the weekend because, well, it’s the weekend: it would be nice to maybe get to leave the house occasionally, you know?

It wasn’t to be, though. And actually, it didn’t matter on Saturday. On Saturday, we had those of our friends who hadn’t seen the new house yet round for the grand tour, which is conducted by Terry, because, seriously, there’s only so many times I can listen to him say, “And I think I’m totally going to knock this wall down when Amber’s not looking!” before it starts a fight. (I’m actually scared to leave the house now in case I come back to find part of it missing. I’m not even joking.) We were obviously at home for that, but on Sunday we thought we’d take advantage of the sunshine we woke up to, and go and do something. “We’ll do something outdoorsy and autumnal!” I said as I got ready. “You know, like REAL people do in October?”

“We better do it quickly, then,” said Terry, consulting the weather forecast online. “Because according to this, it’s going to start raining this afternoon, and it’s not going to stop for the rest of the week. Or possibly ever.”

Well, with those sad tidings hanging over us, we finished getting ready, got into the car, and…

“The sky REALLY doesn’t look too good over there, does it?” I said gesturing in the direction we were headed.

And no, no it didn’t. In fact, it was pretty obvious that if we continued the way we were going, we would drive right into torrential rain, so we stopped quickly to grab this photo of me in my 70s-inspired outfit, and we only JUST got back into the car as the heavens opened up.

So we turned around and came home. There were probably plenty of other things we could’ve done, that wouldn’t involve being outdoors at any point in time, but we couldn’t think of any of them, so a Netflix marathon it was. Could’ve been worse, I guess.

In other news, I THINK I’ve managed to solve my “OMG WHAT TO WEAR FOR HALLOWEEN” dilemma, but unfortunately I find myself at the mercy of the Royal Fail, who will need to deliver certain items by this Saturday in order for my plan to work. If not, I guess I can always just wear this skirt and claim to be a person from 1973 or something?

  • Those are the worst days! When it’s so beautiful and the sun is shining and birds are singing and you think, I could basically be a Disney princess today. Then, just after breakfast, rain. Rain forever.

That IS a beautiful skirt. I can’t seem to wear skirts that high up on my waist – they drive me nuts! Is it just something you get used to?

  • Great shot! Well, yes a month of rain could be a bit overload- ha. But we’ve gotten none yet, so I’m still a little sad about it 🙁 Alex

  • Such a beautiful skirt! Well, the whole outfit is amazing. So sad you couldn’t enjoy that (or take more photos of this outfit :P). But I’m sure the marathon was nice. Me and my boyfriend love to stay in and watch TV Series or movies. Pop corn isn’t bad either 😛
