Review | London Retro ‘Eliza’ cat eye glasses
Oh hey, look: it’s one of those “I have new glasses and I will take awkward selfies to prove it to you!” posts! Because everyone loves an awkward selfie, right?
I last did one of these posts around about this time last year, when I got my current pair of retro-inspired, cat eye glasses. Since then, I’ve actually been wearing glasses a lot more often. I still don’t wear them out of the house (A combination of me still feeling horribly self-conscious in them, and also having very light-sensitive eyes, so I’d really need prescription sunglasses to be able to wear them out of doors), which is why you don’t ever see them in my outfit posts, but I wear them most of time at home, both to save my eyes from the dryness I get if I wear my contacts too much, and also to save me the cost of having to constantly buy more contact lenses. Yes, I am THAT cheap.
Anyway, I still really like my existing frames, but I’ve been thinking about buying a couple of extra pairs, to start building up a little collection, so when MyOptique asked if I’d like to try a pair of glasses from their London Retro range, I was more than happy to agree. I mean, you can tell by the name alone that these glasses would be right up my street, can’t you? I’m all about the retro, and I have a strong preference for cat eye frames, so it didn’t take me long to single out the ‘Eliza’ frames as the objects of my affection:
They’re practically singing my name, aren’t they?
Because MyOptique is an online store, you don’t actually get to try the glasses on before you buy them. This isn’t too much of an issue for me, because of the aforementioned “strong preference for glasses that look like they belong on a 60s secretary” thing, though: I have pretty clear ideas on what I’m looking for in glasses (and in most other items of clothing/accessories, for that matter, which is why I do so much of my shopping online!), so I generally know what I’m going to like, and in this case, because the shape wasn’t too far removed from my existing frames, I had a fair idea of what they’d look like on. There are advantages to sticking to more or less the same style all the time, even although it means that… well, you end up looking more or less the same all the time.
This was actually my second experience of buying prescription glasses online: the last time, however (with a company that shall remain nameless), there was a lot of back-and-forth with the ordering process, and the glasses took almost a month to arrive, so I have to admit that this time around I handed over my prescription details and then pretty much forgot about it. Less than a week, later, though, I was making some coffee in the kitchen when there was a knock on the door, and there were my new glasses (er, in the hands of a courier, needless to say: they didn’t knock on the door on their own, although that would’ve been even more impressive…), complete with a cute little case and – get this – two extra lenses, so that when that inevitable day comes when I scratch, or otherwise ruin, one of the lenses, I can instantly replace it, rather than having to replace the actual glasses.
I’d love to say I’ll never need to use those spare lenses, but let’s face it… I almost certainly will.

I adore those glasses, they’re so cute! I can’t wait to order my new pair. I’m going to go for something from Warby Parker, or stick with Kate Spade frames, I’m just not sure which ones yet.

I love your new glasses and think both these and your current glasses look great on you! I wonder if Myoptique would ship to the states 🙂

They look great on you; your style completely! It is awesome that you have found something that you really like. I am down to my last pair of contacts and about to make the dreaded eye doc appointment, and I can’t wait to get something new as far as glasses go. I am one step ahead of myself this time, I think, because I already have a pair of empty frames waiting to be filled. (A result of my last, glasses shopping disaster.) I can only hope my attempt at getting myself new glasses will go as smoothly as yours. 🙂

Superb! Unfortunately the cat eye shape doesn’t suit me. It really does to you! And the last pic is so Audrey Hepburn.

Love them! I will never not love cat eyes! 😀

You didn’t take a picture with your breasts in view with the caption “new glasses”.
