These photos are a bit of a “Monet”: they look OK from a distance, but if you’d gotten up close you’d have clearly seen the terrible traces of last week’s cold written all over my face. Red nose. Flaky skin. Those freaking red weals I always get around my eyes when I’m ill or stressed, or about to get married in three days. I don’t know… other people seem to get the cold, and then a few days later it’s like it never happened. I get the cold and then wear it on my face for the rest of the month, during which I have to endure people repeatedly asking me if I feel OK, “Because you LOOK terrible!” Awesome stuff.
Anyway, in the aftermath of THAT kind of illness, I normally take refuge in “camouflage clothes” like jeans and sweaters, which won’t draw any attention to themselves, but, well, I’d just bought this cardigan, and I wanted to wear it, so I came up with this outfit instead, and just hoped people would assume the red eyes were just another example of my matchy-matchy tendencies. Or that I would be able to get away with wearing sunglasses indoors.
Not pictured here, of course, is the coat I always have waiting for me in the car when I take outfit photos at this time of year. It actually wasn’t too cold when these were taken (and I was only out in it for a couple of minutes anyway), but that night the weather took a turn for the absolutely freezing, and the neighbours have been taking it in turns to tell me that winter in the village will be like nothing I’ve ever experienced in my life, and that I’ll likely be discovered sometime in May, frozen to death in my bed. So THAT’s something to look forward to, then…

Call me M
11/06/2013I think you look great and I can’t tell that you were sick last week. I’m also recovering from a cold, so I know what you’re talking about. You can definitely see it on me as well. Must be the really white skin, don’t know.
Your cardigan is really cute, and I loved your skirt too!

11/06/2013The only think that helps when I get flaky skin is hydraluron serum, my face gets flaky anyway but this seems to help- which means I only need to worry about the red nose and sallow skin when I get ill- yay! I hate being ill so much and it’s so irritating when you finally start to feel better that you’re still looking ill, there’s nothing like a series of people asking you if you’re okay (because you look so bad) to make you really feel rubbish about the way you look.

11/06/2013I love this outfit. Sexy retro, which you do so well.
You are hiding the remnants of that cold pretty well behind those large sunglasses because everywhere else you still look great.
bisous

11/06/2013Well if you freeze to death, you’ll be discovered before May because surely a 6 month absence is too long and your readers will notice and say something.

11/06/2013The neighbours have obviously been reading this blog and know just what to say to you. 🙂
Also: wearing sunglasses to hide the red weals – genius!

11/06/2013This is a cute look 🙂
I’m glad you are at least feeling better. You don’t look sick to me.

11/07/2013Oh I hear you on the looking ill thing. I get that if I just go without make up!

11/09/2013Ah, the red weals….I’ve experienced them more and more the older I get. Gotta slather on the makeup with a spatula some days!
