A Scottish Summer’s Day
The sun came out. And so did the polka dots.
Actually, the polka dots come out regardless of whether it’s sunny or not. You all know this. But this time around I decided to excel myself, and beat my previous “two polka dot items in one outfit” record with THREE sets of polka dots in one outfit. Well, you wouldn’t expect anything less from the president of the northern chapter of Polka Dot Lovers Anonymous, would you?
This dress is one my clever mum made for me a few months ago. She said the fabric instantly made her think of me. I have no idea why. I was actually starting to think I’d never get an opportunity to wear it this summer, but the lightweight cotton was just the thing for Friday’s hot weather, so out it came, and I couldn’t resist pairing it with these Buffalo sandals, which have white spots on a green background, in a neat little reversal of the green-on-white spots of the dress. And then I couldn’t resist adding a matching hair bow, which is actually the fabric belt from a dress I got rid of years ago, but which lives on in this belt.
What would’ve been REALLY good, of course, would’ve been if I’d zipped the dress all the way up at the back, as opposed to zipping it only part of the way up, making a mental note to ask Terry to zip up the rest, then totally forgetting about it until long after these photos were taken, when I suddenly felt the back of my dress flapping around and realised I’d left the house halfway through getting dressed again. All these years, and still the simple process of clothing myself continues to elude me!
Ah, well: at least I have something to aim for. It’s good to have ambitions…
(P.S. No, I did not wear those shoes to go walk around in a field. I was only in the field for a few minutes, en route to somewhere with a more suitable walking surface!)

Beautiful! And hurrah for your clever Mum š

God, I can’t WAIT for the Polka Dot Lovers Anonymous annual Christmas party – just THINK OF ALL THE DOTS!

Such a pretty dress Amber, your mum is very talented! I’ve started to make dresses too very recently, but mine didn’t look as nice as this one haha š And you can never wear too much polka dots!
Manon
Your mum is amazing, that dress is gorgeous! If you ever want to adopt a sister, let me know. I wish I could say we could share shoes, but I am a size 6!
Frida
“Polka dots” should never be in the same sentence of “too much” š
Great post! Great dress! Great TRIPLE polkadots! yay!
Frida
Love the dress! it’s just perfection on you. Polka dots + green, I wonder why your mum thought of you? š
Aaaaah, just this morning I was with my mom in the process of finding the right pattern for a POLKA DOTS light fabric I have from years, I thought it would make a wonderful full skirt…. But there’s not enough fabric for it. Sigh. It will become a shift dress, instead.
Polka dots are never enough! Please sign me in if you make a polka dots xmas party! š
Erika
The look is beautiful! And that sunshine too š One can never have enough polka dots and sunshine! I just bought a dress and a skirt yesterday – both with polka dots!
Laura
How lucky you are to have such a talented mom! I would love to learn the art of dressmaking so I too can look like clothes were made for me like you do!
Bit cheeky I know but can I ask your advice? My brothers wedding is coming up and I’m wearing this dress…http://www.debenhams.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/prod_10001_10001_017010649460_-1
I’m on the short side so the length falls halfway down my calves and I have no idea what sort of shoes to wear with it! Or what colour they should be! I admire your style so much, any words of advice would be very much appreciated! Thanks xx
Amber
Oh gosh, I’m never very good at making suggestions for other people, but I would think you would be able to wear pretty much any colour of shoes with that dress as it’s black and white – I would probably go for a bright colour like red or bright yellow or something, but I think most colours would work. With midi lengths, I always go with heels, because I think they can end up looking a bit matronly if you try to wear flats or other low shoes with them – that could just be me, though! It’s a lovely dress, I’m sure it’ll look fabulous whatever you decide š

This totally fits the monochromatic theme… At least I think so. And it’s totally not possible to have too many polka dots. This dress is GORGEOUS and what a beautiful setting for your photos!

Such a cute post! Love polka dots too. Do you mind if I steal the theme of this post in the very near future. You look adorable.

I LOVE this outfit! And it totally counts for EBEW! I adore polka dots and wear them as often as I can. But this outfit just takes the cake for me. It’s adorable! And those shoes are just amazing. I love everything about this!
Kelley
Oh my goodness, I can’t believe your mom MADE that dress! It’s wonderful! And these pictures are AMAZING! Loving it all š

I think it totally counts for EBEW! š I LOVE all the polka dots together- so cute!

Your Mum is a very talented lady. I think I might have to apply to be President of the South chapter of Polka Dots Lovers Anonymous (partly because the Christmas party would actually be epic). Today I wore double-dots, as I will be pretty much doing indefinitely, thanks to my beautiful new polkadot satchel (http://hooklineandsinkher2.blogspot.co.uk/2012/08/snoop-inside-my-satchel-ooh-er.html)

Amber I think you were born to wear polka dots. Or they were invented for you… one or the other!!! The green is sooo perfect with your hair colour and the style of the dress: I LOVE this outfit! What a total gush-fest, I need to have a lie down now š

I have to say that I’m somewhat disappointed I didn’t get a little monster avatar come up next to my name/comment… serves me right for trying to be so internet-savvy and getting my face registered on gravatar! xo

Great dress – loving the blogs! I’m taking your recommendation and heading to Jupiter artland this weekend – fingers crossed the lovely Scottish rain stays off!

Adore these pictures! And I am often unzipped mistakenly myself.

I do not believe there is such a thing as too many polka dots.

I love this outfit. It just IS you, Amber.
Love the shape of the dress as well, do you have any idea if your talented Mum used a pattern? If so, can I be cheeky and ask which? Although I know I’d never look as pretty as you in anything similar! Char x
Amber's Mum
It’s an old Options pattern – number V8766. It’s an easy pattern so happy sewing!
Stacey
Such a gorgeous dress! Your mom is so talented! My mom would make a lot of my clothes when I was a kid, and my grandmom used to make my mom’s clothes, and still makes a lot of her own clothes. That sewing gene died out with me, since I can’t sew on a button properly!
I also had to laugh at the walking around with the back half unzipped. That sounds like something I would do.
Call me M
I loved the 3 sets of polka dots in this outfit! It’s my favorite print, after stripes!
And don’t worry about the dress! It happened to me too the other day! I noticed it in the photos I took for the blog. Thankfully I saw it on time, and didn’t go anywhere with my dress almost open.
Melissa
Amazing pics love this from hair to heels

What amazing photos. The colours are spectacular.
I forget to finish zipping up my dresses all the time. Most of the time my husband or girlfriend catch it though. Thankfully I don’t have any photos to remind me, like you. I’d be all up-in-the-face of my photographer asking why the heck they didn’t notice.

Pretty, Polished, Perfect.
To be perfectly honest, I clicked through from EBEW just to say, “Women Who Love Polka Dots Too Much Unite! Holla!” But seriously, is their a recovery group for this? “Hi, my name is Erin – and I’m a polka-dot-aholic.” lol!
