As you might know, my next book is due for release this spring, so when one of my favourite brands got in touch recently and asked if I’d like to be involved in their spring ‘Write Your Story’ campaign, it felt like the perfect fit.

Highland Getaway follows the journey of Rosie Winter; a woman who’s always felt invisible to everyone around her, until an unexpected invitation to a castle in the Scottish Highlands forces her to step into the spotlight, and become the main character of her own story. And she’s not going to let the small matter of the invitation not actually being meant for her get in the way…

As part of their campaign, Very.co.uk asked me to style an item from their huge selection of dresses in a way that captures that ‘main character’ energy, and, as my book is a romantic comedy, I chose to capture Rosie’s look by layering this gorgeous Nobody’s Child white dress with a cute hot pink jumper (Which is sadly still needed in Scotland at this time of year – it was snowing outside while I was taking these photos!) and a pair of colourful Adidas Gazelles. I love wearing pastels at this time of year, but they have to be warm and practical enough for the Scottish weather, so layers are an absolute must, although this dress will look amazing on its own with just a pair of sandals and sunnies, once the warmer weather arrives.

As part of the campaign, I was also gifted this sage green Kindle e-reader:

As much as I’ll always love my beloved paperbacks, I’ve been a Kindle user for over a decade now, having got my first one when I was finally forced to concede that I just couldn’t continue trying to cram 7 or more paperbacks into my suitcase every time I went on holiday. When you read as much as I do, though, you quickly run out of space — both at home and in your hand luggage – for all the books you want to read, which is why my Kindle is never far from my sight.
I love how lightweight this one is, and the glare-free screen means I can read it anywhere without having to worry about the glare from the sun. Oh, and the fact that I can download and read a new book any time I like, without having to wait for it delivered is also a big plus, because, unfortunately for me, one of my ‘main character’ traits is impatience, and who wants to have to wait around to have a new book delivered, when you could be reading it right now? Exactly…

Finally, I’m loving the different colours this comes in, which include the sage green version I have, and a gorgeous hot pink. Did I pick this Kindle, and the jumper I’m wearing with it just so I could match the cover of my book, though?

Um, yes. Yes, I did do that. Well, you can turn a fashion blogger into an author, folks, but I guess there’s always going to be a little bit of that fashion blogger left inside: and I’m pretty sure the main character of Highland Getaway — who’s also a wannabe fashion influencer — would definitely agree with that…
