OUTFIT | Yellow gingham dress-as-skirt
I’ve said it before, and I’m sure I’ll say it again, but, as much as I love dresses, they can be a little bit samey.
Take this one, for instance: it’s one of my absolute favourite items in my wardrobe, but, when it comes to styling it, I always tend to wear it exactly the same way – as I do with almost all of my dresses, really. I’ve shown you it before with a cropped white cardigan and with a denim jacket, but… that’s pretty much it, actually. Dresses are awesome, in other words, but they DO tend to always look more-or-less the same, which means that, every summer, I end up feeling like I just recycle the same old looks, over and over again – probably because that’s exactly what I DO.
Not that there’s anything wrong with that, of course: I mean, I think that’s probably how most people wear their clothes, isn’t it? When I got out this dress earlier in the week, though, I really wanted to try and come up with something just a little bit different from how I’ve worn it before… which is why I went for the trusty old dress-as-skirt option. Honestly, I love wearing dresses as skirts: I always think it makes them look a tiny bit more casual (Although I don’t think “casual” is a word I’d ever really associate with this particular dress!), and it also makes them a bit more versatile. For this look, I’ve kept to my usual formula of big skirt + neutral fitted top, but because the skirt/dress has so much volume in it, it still looks a bit more interesting than some of my other skirt+dress combos.
Also, I loved wearing this outfit, but I kinda wish I hadn’t bothered to photograph it, because when I went to The Pretty Dress Company website to grab the link to it for you, I discovered that it’s now also available in polka dot. And lemon print. And candy stripes. I now want them all, naturally: it’s just such an amazing dress, and, just to prove it, while we were taking these photos, a man walked by with a little girl, who must have asked him what the crazy lady was doing, because the man glanced at me and said, “She’s wearing a pretty outfit and having her photo taken.” Well, if a random passer-by said it, it MUST be true, no?

This is a nifty trick, dress as skirt. I’ve used it a time or two. I went to the Pretty Dress Company website and I like the classic silhouettes and floral/gingham fabrics.

This skirt is absolutely elegant no doubt! I’m big shopping lover & always dubious about ordering clothes online.

Aw! My little nieces are so read up on ‘blogging’ it freaks me out! When I visit them now they ask me to take outfit photos! LOVE this dress, possibly a tiny bit more as a skirt!

It looks great, that’s a super trick to get more ways to wear a favourite dress! I have a gingham dress that I occasionally wear a sheer shirt underneath, to switch it up, and then I have shirts I can tie on top instead too. It certainly helps it feel less samey. I’m glad the passerby had a sensible reaction rather than heckling or something! xx
