I love a tulle skirt.
No, more than that. As in, however much you’re thinking it’s possible for someone to love a skirt, my feelings for tulle are even stronger. And if that’s wrong, I just don’t want to be right.
They’re not the most practical items of clothing in the world, granted. They are, however, one of the most glamorous, and I don’t know about you, but I’ll take glamour over practicality ANY day. There’s nothing quite like a tulle skirt to make you feel like a fairytale princess (or a ballerina, which is almost as good…), and, to totally misquote Anne of Green Gables, from whom there are many life lessons to be learned, don’t you think it would be so much easier to be good in a tulle ballerina skirt? Well, don’t you?
Actually, I don’t know much about being good, but I do know it’s easier to feel glamorous in one, which is where this particular tulle skirt comes in. This was handmade for me by Wardrobe By Dulcinea, and if you’re thinking I got some super-special blogger treatment there, nope: that’s just the standard service they provide to every customer. Every single skirt is handmade from scratch: they hand dye it, make it to your exact measurements, and will even add slits, trains, sashes, bows, extra layers and pockets, if you so desire. There’s a colour chart on their Etsy page, but because each skirt is unique, they can do almost anything you want, including dip-dye and ombre. As you can see, I went for a dusky pink, because, well, I wanted to feel like a ballerina (Oh, don’t look at me like you don’t secretly want to be one too…), and I basically just sent them a photo of the colour I wanted (from Pinterest, obviously), and a couple of weeks later it arrived at my door, all wrapped up with a pretty little bow.

As well as the layers of tulle, which give the skirt all that volume I love so much, my skirt also has a satin waistband, sweet little pearl buttons, and, best of all, POCKETS. This isn’t my first tulle skirt, but it IS the first one to have pockets, so naturally that makes it my favourite: well, you all know I can’t resist a skirt with pockets, right?
Anyway, I WAS just going to do a straightforward outfit post in it, but I couldn’t quite decide which top I liked best with it, so I decided to do four outfit posts instead. (And naturally, as soon as I sat down to write it, I thought of another combination that I totally forgot to include. That one would’ve been the best one, too, I know it. GAH.) Here they are…
Four ways to wear a tulle skirt…
01. Classic
This look came about totally by accident: I happened to be wearing this top when the skirt arrived, and didn’t bother to change before excitedly ripping the package open and trying on my new favourite skirt. I actually really liked the way it looked with the top, though, so decided to wear it again for these photos: I think a skirt as extravagant as this one needs something fairly simple on top, and it doesn’t get much simpler than this. (I went all-out with the sparkly shoes, though, because obviously.)

02. Sweet
I’ve described this look as “sweet”, but another way to describe it would be “sugary sweet” or “OMG, I really wish I was a ballerina”. Who am I to resit the lure of matching pink with pink, though? Who indeed…

03. Biker ballerina
Because I just could’t live with myself if I allowed a week to pass without featuring this jacket. In my defence, it was my most expensive purchase of the year, so at least I’m getting my money’s worth. I’m still really into the “tough-meets-girlie” look, so I don’t think this is the last time you’ll be seeing it. Not by a long shot.
04. “Casual”

I’ve put the word “causal” in inverted commas here, because, well, it’s a pink tulle ballerina skirt – it’s never going to be CASUAL causal, is it? An alternative title for this look was “cat burglar ballerina”. And really, there should BE a cat burglar ballerina, shouldn’t there? That would be awesome. If I wasn’t a blogger, I would definitely be a cat-burgling ballerina. Actually, I’m going to go and look into what qualifications I’d need for it, just in case…

12/03/2015Who wouldn’t want to be ballerina??? My first thought when I saw the first picture was “Amber looks like a princess”. I will be checking this out because one of my childhood dreams was to be a princess and I think this may be the closest I get to it. The detailing on it is just beautiful, love the pockets (all skirts and dresses are improved by pockets – somewhere to shove my hands when standing around awkwardly – why wouldn’t you want them?) and that label is just lovely.

12/03/2015I think this may just be the most beautiful skirt in the entire world…seriously. I’ve owned a couple of tulle skirts before hoping to emulate all the super stylish fashion bloggers, and of course the infamous Sex and the City look, but they were all the cheap kind with scratchy net tulle and an elastic waistband that makes that stick out a bit awkwardly. So now I’ve decided I NEED proper one like this – it’s far too beautiful for me not to have one. And I love all the ways you’ve styled it – I think the last one is the route I would go down most with stripes and flats (because me and heels are often dangerous) but I do adore the ‘ballerina’ look too, although I don’t (yet!) have the pink version of the Hell Bunny cardigan!

I’m a blogger, for heavens sake, it’s like the law or something. This one does sound like a winner though – pockets! I love (well, just like you said, more than love!) tulle skirts as well (I currently own… ahem… 7) and I adore all of your styling ideas! On Cyber Monday, I ordered a leather jacket (in pink) and I can’t wait to pair it with one of my tulle skirts.

12/03/2015I LOVE the biker ballerina look! I just bought a fake leather jacket after looking for the RIGHT one for about two years, so I’m really into finding cool ways to wear it.
But honestly, my favourite thing was the tiny lights… They just make me happy! Though I would constantly trip on them if I had something like that in my house…

My question is; would you ever write a positive review about something you didn’t really like? Like say you didn’t like something about this skirt, perhaps the fabric on the inside was uncomfortable (hypothetically, I wouldn’t know). Would you still write that it is nice and not mention the uncomfortable part, because it is sponsored? Only thought of it as you mentioned about it being sponsored on the bottom of your page, which is really cool that you did, but I am not sure how that would influence your post. Hope I did not offend by asking.

12/07/2015I don’t think “fabric on the inside” is capable of being uncomfortable in any sort of skirt, since it’s sole purpose is to be the barrier between the outer whatever fabric and legs, and to be silky and soft. At least I have never in my life encountered a skirt that would have this problem, and I am a big fan of skirts.

12/15/2015Wow that is a gorgeous skirt! I have a short, more casual tulle skirt that’s not super poofy in this colour, time for a longer one maybe? I love the simple white top with it.
Is there any sort of extra tulle attached to the lining or seams to get that perfect bell shape or is it all just from the 10 layers of tulle? It is so lovely.

I absolutely adore yours- the length, the color, the pockets, the satin (the sizing tag!)- everything about it! I was wondering if you specified the length before they sent it to you? Most skirts I’ve seen have been too short, and I like the length of yours… Also, is this the “blooming ballerina”? They have several options and before I drop $170+ on a skirt, I want to know what I’m getting 🙂
