Home | Mini Updates for the Master Bedroom

stripe top with black capri pants and red shoesAs I mentioned a few weeks ago, lately I’ve been firmly into, “Must change all the things!” mode when it comes to home decor.

Of course, what I’d really like to do is to just rip out my entire kitchen – and all of the downstairs flooring, for that matter – and start again from scratch, but until I can persuade Terry to get on board with that one (By which I mean, “Make him think it was totally his idea…”), I’m stuck with making little updates wherever I can. This week, we turned our attention to the master bedroom, which we redecorated a couple of years ago, and then basically didn’t touch again, because that’s what we do. Luckily, we both still love the minimal, all-white look we went for here (Side note: no, it’s not remotely hard to keep clean, and no, I’m not lying…), but the room WAS in need of a few little touches, which we’ve gradually been adding, to give all of that white a little more texture. (SPOILER: all of the updates are ALSO white, so if you’re hoping I’ve finally succumbed to the “pop of colour,” rule everyone’s so keen on, sorry to disappoint, and you might just want to skip this one…)

So, first up is the white tree light my parents bought us last month, after we’d gone on and on (And on, and on…) about wanting one, but failed to do anything about it:

Yes, I think it’s technically a Christmas tree. No, we can’t bring ourselves to care, because it’s twinkly and fabulous, and that makes it a LIGHT, people. IT IS A LIGHT.

Next up, we had to get a blind for the little window next to the bed, which has, embarrassingly enough, been left totally bare for as long as we’ve lived here. So, er, three years, then. Whoops.

In our defence, this room is on the third floor of the house, which is right at the top of a hill. The window in question looks right onto the wall of the house next door, so it’s not overlooked at all, and we like to get as much light into the house as possible, so it’s not really been a huge issue for us. It did, however, leave the room looking a bit unfinished, so we wanted to find something that was very simple, and would blend in with the minimal look of the room, without drawing too much attention to itself. This blind was courtesy of Blinds UK, and it was made to measure, so it fits the window exactly, and adds another bit of texture to the room.

Finally, if you follow me on Instagram, you might have seen some of my Stories about these LED letter lights, which, I’m just going to admit, I totally copied from someone else’s Instagram, that I saw absolutely ages ago:

We found these on eBay, and, for some reason, the seller sent them out in two separate batches, so we spent a couple of days thinking we were just going to have the word “HI” on our wall… which would sort of worked, actually, but it wasn’t quite what we had in mind, so we were relieved when the other two letters turned up on Saturday morning, thus allowing Terry to spend a part of his weekend obsessively checking his spirit level to make sure they were EXACTLY straight. (They are, by the way: if they look a little off in any of these photos, it’s just the camera angle, I promise. Terry is nowhere near as anal as I am about most things, but one thing he cannot STAND is crooked pictures/other decorations on walls: he literally goes into people’s houses and immediately starts straightening all of their wall art. We’re tons of fun at parties, seriously…)

Anyway, as is always the case with us, we’re not even close to declaring ourselves done with this room yet, so it’s still a work in process, much like the rest of the house. Especially that kitchen…

  • I love the whiteness of your room. Serious inspiration for when I move (sigh, wonder when that will be). I especially love the white tree light, it’s such a unique idea!

Gorgeous! But if you want a “straight out of architectural digest” look, you gotta invest in some feather/down pillows and duvet inner. Flat pillows are more “crack den chic” NOT that your bedroom looks like a crack den Amber LOL

Love your update, and glad you got the other two letters for the wish.

Love it! I’m a fan of the flower thing hanging from you ceiling too–is that a chandelier? And there’s nothing wrong with the monochromatic look–my room is almost entirely gray 🙂

I would be so excited to have a room in my house this white (seriously, I miss my white duvet). Unfortunately, our animal-oriented lifestyle isn’t conducive (too many indoor/outdoor animals, and too much mud), but I love living vicariously through your home!

You look so cute, Amber, especially in the picture at the bottom! Actually the black and white striped top gives inspiration for black and white striped accents…..maybe a throw pillow??

That tree light thing is awesome. I will (hopefully) be moving soon and the (hopeful) apartment is going to need a lot of lights. I might just have to get a tree light for myself!

  • Super happy to see the blinds – have been looking for something similar for quite sometime now. And we will definitely have to get something custom made. Will be scrolling through this now! I like the idea of little updates – not as expensive but just as cheerful.
