So, it turns out pregnancy is a really good opportunity to try out the whole “‘capsule wardrobe” thing, huh?

Seriously, it’s been YEARS since my wardrobe (or the usable part of it, at least…) has been this small, and although, strictly speaking, I know I probably have more than enough to get me through the next few months, I’m just SO BORED with it all already that I’m having a hard time convincing myself not to buy more.

I guess that answers the “Could I live with a capsule wardrobe?” question, then.

Still, I guess the good thing about this enforced wardrobe diet is that it’s forcing me to be just a little more creative with my outfits. I’ll be honest: I know most fashion bloggers love having the opportunity to remix things, but I’m pretty lazy on that score. Yes, I can do it if I really have to , but, left to my own devices, I’ll normally end up taking an “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it,” approach to fashion, and just re-wearing the same things, in the same way, over and over again.

Case in point: this dress.

This isn’t actually a maternity dress, but the ruching around the stomach area means that it works really well as one: so much so that I actually ended up also getting this very similar three-quarter sleeved version. (Annoyingly, although I got the same size as my existing dress, this one seems to run smaller, so I reckon I’ll only get a few weeks out of it before it has to be retired. I really love the shape and quality, though, so I’m keeping everything crossed that it’ll still fit once the baby is here!) Most of the time, I’ve been wearing it exactly as I did in this post, but last week I decided to switch things up a little, and go for a more casual/sporty vibe, instead.

Now, the sporty look isn’t something I usually go for, granted, but this was a day I knew I’d be doing a lot of walking (We went for a long walk around the grounds of Hopetoun House), so I started with the sneakers, and basically worked my way up from there. I was really comfortable in this, but it was something a little bit different from the maternity leggings I’d normally default to for an outing like this, and, well, they do say a change is as good as a rest, don’t they?

With that said, I kinda feel I have to apologise in advance – as weird as it is to be apologising for wearing my own clothes – for the amount of outfit repeating you’re likely to be seeing over the next few months. Let’s just hope you’re all up for a bit of “remixing”…

(P.S. I got my dress from Shopbop, who are offering my readers 15% off their first purchase (full-price items only), with the code APP15 – happy shopping!

  • I felt the same way during both my pregnancies, you know it won’t last long but it does get boring wearing the same things over and over again! I did a LOT of remixing with the same few dresses, a skirt and a pair of trousers but threw as many cardis, blazers, floaty tops etc as I could into the mix. And yes, it also confirmed for me that the capsule wardrobe idea is a no go 🙂

    Have a lovely weekend x

  • I am so ready to start wearing non-maternity clothes again! I haven’t bought too many maternity things – luckily I went through a shift dress obsession just before I got pregnant so made do with those and my stretchier dresses – but I am still looking longingly at the high-waisted skirts/vintage dresses/jeans without a stretchy waist… Anyway, this dress looks gorgeous! Great find 🙂

  • I like sporty Amber! Very cute. I’m actually enjoying the remixing – something I’m trying to do more of myself.
