Unique Vintage Style Society | ‘Golightly’ polka dot bow dress

blue and white polka dot 50s inspired retro dressOf all of the dresses I’ve been lucky enough to get to wear as part of the Unique Vintage Style Society, I think this one has to be my favourite. (Don’t tell the others: I don’t want them to feel jealous!) I mean, just look at the volume in that skirt, people! It doesn’t really get much better than that, does it?

Oh no, wait: it does get better than that – this dress also has pockets. You all know how much I love a dress with pockets, right? And the straps are detachable, so if you can quickly whip them off and turn them into a strapless dress, if you so desire. I chose to use them for these photos, because I didn’t want to inadvertently end up flashing the camera: the bodice actually feels pretty secure without them (It’s elasticated, so it fits closely, but still lets you breathe when you’re wearing it), but I like the added security of the straps, so I always like it when a dress has that option.

I’m wearing a petticoat with it, as you can see – seriously, that skirt is so huge it was practically crying out for one. Although there’s a lot of fabric in there, though (don’t even ask how long it took me to iron this thing…), unlike some very full midi dresses, it also works just fine without the petticoat, because the gathering at the waistline gives the skirt a bit of volume on its own. My one regret? The fact that, once again, I didn’t actually get to wear it out of the house, thanks to – you guessed it! – the weather. Thanks, June. Also: I hate you.

I love how you posed sitting down with it! We can really see how big the skirt is.

Like Fran, I love the sitting pose that enables us to see the wideness of the skirt. You’re gorgeous in that dress, and it is lovely styled with the red dot shoes. I love dots with dots!
It is really a nice brand that I discovered thanks to your blogging about it. Do you think their sizing is accurate?
It is very hard to say which one in those you presented us is the more breathtaking and can be elected favourite!

          Thank you, Amber.
I have been completely absorbed in their website since half an hour now. Dresses, vintage style swimsuits, etc… I don’t know if it will be airshopping only or if I will be brave enough to order as I’m always precautious with international shipping when you have to pay full price for returning an item. Reason/ passion…

  • Still making good use of your new white space, I see 😉 I wish I had somewhere like this indoors for the time the weather hates the south too (which is probably very nearly as frequently)… The comment about the ironing made me laugh, having spent most of Saturday morning attempting to iron two full skirts and then remembering why I usually buy fabrics that don’t need it. But anyway, it’s a beautiful dress – I wish we had a Unique Vintage equivalent here!

After spending 10 days in Scotland in May I can see your point about the weather!

I love full circle skirts – I have a couple where the diameter of the skirt is about 5′. Feels and looks amazing! (And plus one to Fran – the photo of you sitting down with it really shows it off beautifully!)

(Checks bank account to see if there is room to add anymore to the collection…)

Stunning dress. That skirt is just wonderful!

A dangerous skirt to outside in the wind though, maybe? 😉

  • Stunning, you’re so delectable in that dress! And the first pose has a touch of Marilyn about it. I would be pretty pleased with a dress that pretty with pockets, I’m tempted to add them to every dress I own, but don’t trust my sewing skills.

You have decorated your house perfectly for outfit photos – those lovely white walls and floors. Our house is full of pink carpets and piles of junk because we need more shelves. Sigh.

  • That sure would be a nice sized ironing project… But, I still want one. It is beautiful!
