Last year I started a Reading / Watching / Trying / Buying series, to tell you about all the things I was… I don’t really need to explain that one, do I?
I was intending to continue with that this year too, but when I sat down to write this month’s post, it occurred to me that it might actually be better to take it one thing at a time, rather than lumping everything together. Some months I’ll read loads, and not watch much, for instance, other months it’s the complete opposite, so I figured it might be better to separate the topics out, and just post when I have something to write about, rather than sticking to a monthly schedule.
Er, I honestly have no idea why I just told you all that, because let’s face it: no one cares how I organise my blog, so without further ado, here’s what I’ve been watching lately…
The Bridge is a Danish / Swedish collaboration, which follows the story of Danish cop Martin, and Swedish cop Saga, who, along with their respective teams, must work together to find the murderer of a woman whose body is found on the bridge separating the two countries.
I’m not normally a huge fan of police dramas, but this one really sucked me in, and we binge-watched the first two series during the week between Christmas and New Year. (If only that had been the only bingeing we did over the holidays!) I think there’s now an American remake of it out now, but the unfamiliar setting (the filming is split pretty evenly between Denmark and Sweden) made it more interesting for us, as did the characters: particularly Saga, who I loved. This show, in fact, is the reason Terry now sometimes tells me, “I can’t believe how Saga you’re being right now…” You’ll have to watch it to find out what I mean…
Terry and I actually started watching Pretty Little Liars a couple of years ago, but we stopped subscribing to whatever channel it was on or something, and lost track of it. A few weeks ago, though, we realised it had been added to Netflix, so we’ve resumed our schedule of admiring everyone’s hair, and gasping in horror at some of Aria’s outfits. We had to re-watch a couple of episodes to remind ourselves what had happened (And honestly, I’m still not sure we know…), but I’m now totally obsessed again. I love a good mystery, and this show is more or less the ultimate mystery, with almost every episode promising a big reveal that never actually comes.
The big problem with Pretty Little Liars, however, is that most episodes end with some kind of cliffhanger or other ‘OMG!” moment, which makes it impossible to stop watching it. We’re going to have to, though, because last night Terry informed me he’s recorded a bunch of stuff on Sky+ which we now “have to” watch, so we can free up some space on the hard disk.
“But… I want to watch Pretty Little Liars!” I whined, unable to believe what I was hearing.
“I know,” said Terry. “I do, too.” (Because yes, he DOES enjoy shows more typically watched by teenage girls…) “But this has to be done.”
So, basically, we’re now going to have to force ourselves to watch something else, just so we can delete it. No, it doesn’t make sense to me, either. My only hope is that Terry’s need to find out who ‘A’ is turns out to be just as big as mine is…[P.S. I know this goes without saying, but we still have a lot of catching up to do with this show, so please, no spoilers 🙂 ]
