2014 | A Year in Outfit Photos

black and white stripe prom dress

As years go, 2014 wasn’t a bad one. I mean, I’ve had worse. Way, WAY worse, so I can’t really complain.

It wasn’t a particularly interesting year either, though, if I’m totally honest. This was always going to be The Year of the House for us: having bought our new home in August 2013, the year that followed was all about settling in, making plans… er, having the hall dug up and the powder room remodelled: that kind of thing. With most of our budget being sunk into the house, then, there wasn’t much money or time for anything else: we had a trip to London and Kent during the summer, and a few other adventures thrown in, but if I did a retrospective of the year, it would mostly be photos of me sitting at my desk, blogging which… well, it makes Amber a dull girl, doesn’t it?

Instead, then, I’ve chosen to recap the year by looking at what I wore. I’ve mentioned before that while taking photos of your outfits is a pretty strange thing to do, all things considered, it also comes in handy for people like me, who have a burning (and yet inexplicable) need to record all of the mundane little details of their lives. As I look back at these outfit photos, I don’t just remember what I was wearing, I remember what I did, how I felt, and all kinds of other little details that aren’t in the photos – or even mentioned in the text that accompanied them a lot of the time – but which are nevertheless hidden somewhere in those pixels.

So, this was my year: I can’t wait to see what 2015 will bring! (And, you know, what I’ll be wearing for it…)

  • Hi Amber, I hoped you had a great Christmas 🙂 In the December one you look frozen, like you trying to stop shivering long enough to take a photo.
I adore the July blue dress – it so pretty. xx

Have a great new year and I look forward to more outfit pictures. xx

  • June and October are my favourites 🙂 I’m with you that outfit photos remind me of the whole day, it’s one of the more fun things about this strange habit of posting photos of what you’re wearing for all the world to see!

  • I know what you mean about all the memories tied to a photo even if it is just a silly outfit one. Although, your outfit photos are far from silly; beautiful would be a better word to use. 🙂 My favorite is what you have posted for April. The colors and the print of the fabric are perfect. I am looking forward to 2015… Enjoy the last few days of your year.

Amber, your outfits are what some of us come here for, so don’t feel bad about posting pictures of yourself. You have inspired me to define my style and express it partly through what I wear, so I am grateful for all your self-portraits!

  • Wow! Love your style. And your hair? Incredible! Think October is my fave. I’m a sucker for a good stripe.

Love November and December! And September, so basically you look gorgeous all year round!

  • I love that your style is so recognisably ‘Amber’ but so different all the time too! I’ve thought that about blogging; whilst we’re posting about interesting stuff we’re actually just sat at home behind a screen being relatively boring. Ah well, you’re exciting with your words!
    Happy New Year!

    Happy 2015!

And thank you for igniting my love of dresses this year! An F&F black and white dress early in the year got me from owning one dress for weddings etc at the start of the year, to them being the staple of my wardrobe (after many years of thinking that dresses would never suit me!).

Can’t wait to see your posts for the new year!

Love your blog! Your style has inspired me and my sister, she’s all about full skirt and dress now.
When I clicked on Jan, Feb and Mar, I wasn’t directed to the original post.
