A Single Day of Summer

I expect you’re all probably pretty sick of hearing British people complain about the weather by now, huh? I don’t blame you. If it’s any consolation, complaining about the weather IS our national pastime, it’s true, but we’re pretty sick of it now too, really. We can’t help it, though, because where is our summer? We want our summer, and we’re not leaving until we’ve had it, SO THERE.

As it happens, I think we probably HAVE had it now. In Scotland, summer 2015 took place on Thursday, August 13. (Our relatives in Kent had Biblical rainstorms that day, so I guess they’re going to be getting summer some other time…) That day, Terry and I happened to be in Glasgow for a couple of hours, so I managed to squeeze in some quick outfit shots by the river. It’s handy, actually, because one day we’ll be able to look back on these and say, “Oh yeah, that was summer 2015 – all of it!” I’ll stop talking about the weather now, I promise…

Er, actually, I don’t have a whole lot else to say about these photos OTHER than the weather, to be honest. Apart from this Kate Spade handbag, which is new, you’ve seen everything else before, and the handy little links above should point you to my previous posts about them. I have to say, I had a hard time not pairing this dress with red shoes, because that’s what I ALWAYS do when I wear black and white, but then I remembered that I also sometimes like to wear dots with…other dots… so I went for these shoes instead of the red ones that were calling my name. Don’t worry, red shoes, your day will come: and probably pretty soon, knowing me..double dots[separator type=”thin”]WEARING: F&F dress; Buffalo shoes; Kate Spade handbag*[separator type=”thin”]

Never mind the red shoes because everything is paired perfectly well here. Er…but did I remember it correctly this bag wasn’t in you wish list? Well, I guess you can’t resist the stripes.

No, from this post Filling the Holes in My Closet: My Shopping List.

I’m going to buy the same Philip 3.1 bag as yours in blue, in the next sales. I didn’t know I needed until I saw you using it repeatedly. But now I may also need this Kate Spade since my colleague will be traveling to the U.S.

    Hello Amber,

Of course I love this outfit, but I write here for a different concern. Since the “Lately” post of 3 days ago, your following posts don’t appear anymore in my Bloglovin thread. So I went on your site and saw you were still publishing nice and interesting thoughts everyday.

Am I the only one with this problem, or did you disconnected from it, or something else? Just wondering… Even if I don’t comment everyday, i read you happily and love every kind of posts. But sometimes, I feel that my addition to the thread of comments won’t be of that much importance. But today, I’m worried you see!

I just checked on the Bloglovin research page about bloggers we want to follow to understand what the problem could be.
1st of all: you have too many homonyms: Rubin should be very pleased to help you mark your territory and doing something around the others blogs… I’m not sure my french humour translate so well in english.
2nd: I found out you have 2 threads to get followers.
        a) “Forever Amber” at foreveramber.co.uk with 2324 followers which hasn’t been active for the last three days.
        b) “Forever Amber-Uk fashion blogger” page2rss.com with only 2 followers which get your latest posts.
So I suppose 2323 other followers are missing you.

        I hope it might help.

I like the dots with dots, plus the heels give it that red punch while walking away. Whenever I’m designing a runway show I always think about the walking away effect. Anyways, summer is hanging by a thread in the next states. Any day now it will be a 24/7 sound of light rain till June. Altgough, I just bought some rain boots that I can’t wait to try out. 🙂

    Hi Amber!
I love your style, very classy and chic! I live in the U.S. and have not had the opportunity to visit the U.K. but I would love to someday. I think it’s funny you talking about the weather because we do the same thing over here in the Pacific Northwest where I live(I actually live in a city called Kent, near Seattle, in Washington State). Except in our conversations we are wondering where our clouds and rain have gone. We’ve had 3 full months of a hot summer and we’ve had all the sun we can take! If I could I’d box some up for you and ship it overseas!!!
Anyhow, I thoroughly enjoy your blog, it is a source of clothing inspiration for me!

  • That’s one of the best looks I’ve seen on you, Amber. Fantastic frock teamed beautifully with those shoes. I also love monochrome and have just treated myself to a dress in the sale at Reiss.

  • This is very true, Amber!
Us British do moan about the weather…well, maybe not all of us are ‘moaning’ but it is certainly a topic for discussion. Not to mention a great ice-breaker (pardon the pun) for chitchat with strangers.
I my corner of Scotland we had that warm day too and I watched the masses don their summer holiday outfits and dash outside to burn nicely and get some interesting tan lines.
As a pale-faced (and blue legged) person I tend not to bother with the sun part, I just enjoy the actual HEAT….just feeling warm is enough for me!
Your dress in this shoot, is super cute and those heels are a delight!
It certainly makes the most of fleeting good weather.
I couldn’t help but smile in those shoes.

  • The dresses that you always choose is always such a change from the generic wardrobes we have nowadays. Shame the sun doesn’t stay out long enough for us to rock them.

    I love them! x x x

I live in Canada (Vancouver B.C. to be exact) and people here always complain about the weather when there’s nothing else to talk about. Awkward silences are generally broken by someone saying, “Ugh, so it’s raining again, eh?”

This summer it’s been blazing hot so now people are making conversation with “Oh, I’m just so sick of this heat, aren’t you?” *eye roll*

I love your polka dot-and-red shoes!

Great comment about the soles and attention to detail – so important to think about the look when you’re walking away. A personal hate is seeing the label still stuck to the sole – yuck!

Dots and dots go great by the way.

  • This is such a beautiful outfit! I’m in love with the dress! And the bag is really nice too! 🙂
I’m so sorry to hear you’ve been having terrible weather all summer. But I’m glad that you had at least one summery day! Hope you get more of those soon!

Firstly, I absolutely LOVE your blog! I feel like we’re style sisters with our love for 50s dresses, cat eye sunglasses and bright red hair (and lipstick!). I don’t usually comment or anything on blogs, but I just felt that I HAD to tell you about some Australian brands that I think you would go crazy for (and that I love!). Review Australia is incredible! I went in the other day and bought the In the Spotlight Dress and the Strawberry Fields dress and haven’t looked back since. SO GOOD. Plus they have THE best cropped cardigans for our beloved fit and flare dresses. I literally wear my navy cardigan every day! Another couple that I think you’d love are Kitten D’Amour – ultra cutesy, retro styles, and Alannah Hill – also amazeballs. Review and Kitten D’Amour are pretty TTS, but I do find Alannah Hill runs small.

Like I said, I never do these comments, but from one dress-loving redhead (I’m up to 60 dresses at the moment!) to another, I thought it was my duty to let you in on one of my style secrets.

And also, never stop your blog! I love it too much!
