Outfit: Black leather jacket

This outfit might seem like a bit of a departure for me, but it’s not really: it’s just one of those ‘everyday’ looks I wouldn’t normally bother photographing, because it was too rainy, or too dark, or because the outfit was just too damn boring.

(I know: an outfit being boring has never stopped me posting it before, but the ones you see are just the tip of the iceberg. There’s really no limit to how totally basic I can be on a daily basis…)

When I first started doing outfit posts, though, I had intended to basically try and document what I was wearing every day – even if it wasn’t what would generally be considered “blog worthy” – and now that I finally have some better lighting, which allows me to take photos indoors, and not have to restrict myself to only posting whatever I’m wearing on the one day a week when it isn’t raining outside, I thought I might give the whole “outfit of the day” thing a go.

So, this isn’t actually my outfit of THIS day (I mean, I just have better indoor lighting, I don’t have a whole new super-organised personality or anything…): it’s actually my outfit of last Monday, and it was thrown together in my usual rush to get out of the house. In fact, these are the outfit photos that resulted in me leaving the house still clutching the remote control for the camera, so now you now.

This was also the first outfit of the season that had to be worn with tights: I could probably have gotten away with bare legs if I’d really wanted to, but it was pretty chilly that morning, so I got out the tights and instantly remembered why I hate them so much, because you see that black pencil skirt I’m wearing with them? I’ve worn that skirt probably dozens of times now with bare legs, and I’ve never had an issue with it, but as soon as I tried wearing it with tights, I discovered the hem would keep catching on the tights, then kinda flipping up, so it looked like some bizarre kind of crumb catcher or something. Awkward. I’m sure a slip would’ve solved the problem, but I don’t have one that long, so I guess that’s a lesson learned, and another item to be added to my ever-growing wish list.

The jacket, meanwhile, is the one I bought on the first day of my holiday (and which I can’t seem to find on the Zara website, although they do have this very similar one), and it’s already had quite a few outings since we’ve been back: if I manage to keep up this whole “outfit of the day” thing, you’ll quickly see just how obsessed I am with biker jackets right now: don’t say I didn’t warn you!

  • You’re a braver woman than me… I was back in tights in August! And they’ve basically not left me since (well, unless to change for a clean pair, it’s not quite that bad). I wish I found leather jackets warmer than I do – I feel like I could really get into them but I end up freezing every time I wear them!

  • Wow! You look amazing! It’s fun to see a different style – not for you, I guess, but different from what we usually see. I have never wanted a black leather jacket (in my adult life, anyway) until right now.

  • I love this outfit. I have a bit of a thing for pencil skirts and biker jackets. I have spent way too much time searching online lately for the perfect biker jacket. Finding one that looks the way I want and is within my price range is hard but the one you linked to is a definite possibility. As for tights, I hate the things.
