Outfit: Blanket scarf and biker jacket

blanket scarf and biker jacket outfitThis isn’t the outfit I’d intended to be my first of the year.

I had all kinds of plans to do some kind of glamorous photoshoot, probably involving my New Year’s Day outfit (Because yes, I get dressed up for New Year’s Day, as well as for New Year’s Eve. You really didn’t expect any less of me, did you?), and a really lucky break with the weather, but… well, I’m just going to level with you here: the last week of 2015 was pretty awful, really. One of the most awful weeks of ANY year, to be completely honest.

Some of the reasons for that are ones I can’t share with the internet (Seriously, I hate being That Blogger who’s all, “Oooh, secrets!”, I really do, but I don’t have a choice in this one, because the Very Bad Things that happened that week didn’t happen to me or Terry, and are not my story to tell. Suffice to say that no one died, and we all have our health: those are the main things, really.), so this post should really have come with some kind of ‘VAGUE BLOGGING AHEAD!” warning: sorry about that. What I CAN tell you, though, is that the day these photos were taken, I’d woken up without a voice again, thanks to The Cold That Wouldn’t Quit, and when I say “I’d woken up”, I mean, “I hadn’t actually slept, on account of all the coughing”. At this point, I don’t even remember the last time I slept, which explains quite a lot, now I come to think of it.

(Other things I don’t remember: what my ‘normal’ voice sounds like. At one point I called a friend, and she genuinely didn’t believe it was me. She was all, “No, seriously: who is this?” I think she possibly thought it was some kind of dirty phone call, actually, because of the deep, raspy voice I had at the time. AWESOME, Amber: just AWESOME.)

It was the first non-rainy day all month, though, so we decided to head out anyway, and check out some of the sales (I got this dress from Zara: it’s much nicer than it looks in their photo, I promise…), so this is what I look like when I’ve had the cold for approximately 500 years, haven’t slept properly in the same amount of time, and couldn’t even be bothered to wash my hair before leaving the house. (I DID shower, though, so at least that’s something.)

Anyway, I almost didn’t post these, because I’m sure you’ll all sick to death of this jacket by now, and also because it’s a bit of a change from the type of thing I usually wear in my outfit posts. Still, they say a change is as good as a rest, and, well, I sure haven’t had much of a rest, so I guess I may as well try a change, instead…

Love seeing the different looks, I may live vicariously through you when you post beautiful midi skirts and dresses but I can recreate this look 🙂

Sorry to hear that you’re sick and had a stressy end of year. I normally get a mild version of the plague on Christmas eve that lasts until the day before I go back to work and I spend Christmas in bed alternating between freezing and burning up but yay, I managed to avoid it this year. (No doubt I’ll get hit with a double dose of it soon enough though). I hope things start to pick up again for all involved soon.

  • Hope things improve for you soon – at least they can only get better, right…? I like seeing what bloggers wear, whenever they wear it, so I don’t think you should feel bad about the lack of a midi skirt. It’s all good…

  • Sorry the end of the year was so rough for you! I hope things are improving!

I actually really like this outfit! It’s something I would/could wear. You look stunning in your beautiful dresses, but I don’t think most would work on me… (Still love seeing them on you though!) And, you look amazing for having been sick for 500 years…

  • As fun as it is to see pretty dresses, I enjoy seeing your more casual side, too. I’m always drawn to knitted scarfs but I think I may have something similar to this that I haven’t gotten out in years. It looks really cute!

  • I’m an occasional scarf wearer, but have never tried the blanket scarf. I like the look of it, and scarves just make me feel so cozy when I do wear them. I bet a blanket one would even more. Hope your year has picked up some for the better. ?
