Where Should Betsy Live?
Everyone, this is Betsy, our brand new pink sofa of dreams:
Betsy is what’s called a “cuddler sofa” – so, she’s a two seater… but only if the two people in question are comfortable having a bit of a cuddle. Awww!
She’s also, as you can see, pink and perfect – so, when the kind people at DFS asked if we thought we could find a home for her, my answer was an immediate, “HELL, YES!” … even although we already have two perfectly good sofas, which we have absolutely no intention of getting rid of.
“But where will it LIVE?” though, asked Terry, who was clearly having some trouble adjusting to the idea that this sofa is a “she”, not an “it”. It was, however, a reasonable question, under the circumstances. Now, the thing is, when this collaboration came up, I thought I knew EXACTLY where Betsy should live. But then, when she arrived (Just three weeks later, which REALLY impressed us: we’ve had to wait three MONTHS for sofa deliveries in the past, so we’d been thinking we’d be lucky to get this one by Christmas!), the delivery men brought her into the kitchen, and I was all, “HOLD THE PHONE”: because, seriously, doesn’t Besty look amazing in the kitchen?!
Betsy looks amazing in the kitchen, guys. She might not, however, be totally practical there, so Terry moved her into the living room, until my dad could come round the next day and help him lift her to her final destination.
There was one problem, though:
Betsy looks kind of awesome in the living room, too. Well, I mean, she DOES, doesn’t she?
Of course, being a “cuddler” sofa, she’s probably a little too small to be totally useful here – and as we already have a giant corner sofa in this room, it could end up looking just like a room full of chairs. Which would be weird, right?
(Totally open to the idea that this would not be remotely weird, just FYI…)
Having established that Betsy was the kind of sofa who’d look good pretty much ANYWHERE, though, we decided to throw caution to the wind and try out some other locations. My parents were duly summoned to help out with the lifting and carrying, and, for the next couple of hours, this was our lives:
First of all, we put Betsy in the nursery:
By this point, we weren’t surprised to see that Betsy looked pretty sweet next to the grey wall. Now, the nursery DOES need a seat, and while, OK, yes, we’re having a boy, we’re not remotely into the whole, “Pink is only for girls!” thing, so it could work, no?
Then again, so could this:
It’s Boss Girl Betsy, all ready for a hard day of – well, of not doing very much, really, on account of being a sofa – in the home office. Handy for all of those times when I get so uncomfortable at my desk (Thanks to the 3rd trimester, I hasten to add, not because of the desk: I can’t really sit ANYWHERE for very long right now without getting hideously uncomfortable) and just want collapse on something soft.
It’s Bedroom Betsy!
Now, as some of you might recall, we already have a sofa which normally sits in this space: our thinking here, however, is that we’d move that one to the nursery, and put this one here, where it works well with the pink and grey colour scheme we’ve got goin’ on in here.
So, as you can see, it’s not so much a question of “Where can we put this pink sofa?” as “Where CAN’T we put this pink sofa?”
I’m pretty sure I know what MY preferred solution is, but I’m curious to know what everyone else thinks, so tell me:
Where do YOU think Betsy should live?
[Thanks to DFS for collaborating on this post!]
