OUTFIT | Wiggle dress, faux fur, and over-the-knee boots
Clearing out my closet last week made me realise there were a few items lurking there which hadn’t been worn for a while, so I decided it was time to break out this Zara pencil dress, which I bought a couple of years ago.
I’ll be honest: when the weather is as cold as this, I tend to spend most of my time in a work-from-home uniform of stretchy black pants (yes, really) and a selection of (mostly stripey) tops, but it’s good to get out of that rut every now and then, and put on some “real” clothes – even when you know you’re going to be up to your ankles in snow. As soon as I put this dress on, however, I realised why I don’t wear it so often: it’s a “wiggle” dress in the truest sense of the word – the opening at the bottom is so narrow it forces you to take tiny little steps, and puts a bit of a “wiggle” in your walk: not really the best look, especially when there’s snow on the ground!
I’ve been meaning to have a split put in the back of it for ages now, but it’s one of the many things I’ve added to my list, and then immediately forgotten about, so I guess I should just be happy I made it through the day without falling over. But enough about the dress!
Unusually for me, this outfit is all about the details, both of which came courtesy of my parents. They gave me the over-sized faux-fur scarf for Christmas, and it’s come in really handy given the current temperatures. The gloves, meanwhile, are from last Christmas, and I think they found them at a local antiques market they like to visit, which also sometimes has clothes and accessories. Wherever they came from, though, I absolutely love them: well, I never could resist an over-sized bow!

LOVE the gloves, so much. I have a list system which works very much in the same way.

Hi Amber! I love your style! I have a question for you here. How would you style a huge poofy midi skirt with large floral prints? I bought it on impulse & only realized when I got home that my life is not nearly glamorous enough to wear it anywhere. It’s really pretty though, looks like the kind of fabric you would find on a curtain or cushion cover!
Amber
Oh gosh, it’s hard to say without seeing it! I normally just wear fitted tops and heels with midi skirts, though, so I’d probably go for that!

Gorgeously glamorous in the snow again… We should all just wear (fake) fur every day in the winter! It looks so good and it’s so warm… I really thought I had something more insightful to say here, but it’s gone… That’s Monday for you!

Hi Amber,
I love everything about this look. I don’t know how graceful I would look taking baby steps 🙂 so funny. Love this plaid fitted dress, and I have a love for stoles like this , the color with the boots and gloves is so fabulous! Your little fur baby is so adorable, he looks like a lttle snowball in the snow. I have 2 furbabies a red haired shih tzu and a chocolate one.
please stop by, jess xx

Love this whole outfit! It so vintage and I love the little details, especially the bows on the gloves. Pure respect for managing snow, heels and a wiggle dress!

Oh, the gloves. I cry that they aren’t modern and available for me! 😉
Amber
They are actually modern – I think it’s only the furniture etc at the place that’s “antique”: there are stalls with people selling new stuff, too!

This dress is so pretty! You definitely should put a slit in it so you can wear it more comfortably because it looks great on you. I also love those gloves with the adorable bow detail. Super cute!

I wonder whether you’ve styled the pink or nude peplum coat from Miss Selfridge. I can’t seem to find it.
Amber
I don’t actually own a pink coat from Miss Selfridge – the only Miss Selfridge coat I have is green. Perhaps you’re thinking of someone else?
Tess
I found the Miss Selfridge peplum coat in Shoeperwoman and I thought you’ve bought it.
Amber
No, I don’t buy the things I feature on ShoeperWoman, I just write about them.
