Another Bedroom Makeover

You know how they say pregnant women get a “nesting” instinct towards the end of their pregnancies?

I’ve had mine since long before this pregnancy even started.

Like, looooooong before.

If you’ve been reading this blog for any length of time at all, you’ve probably gathered that I can be a little bit of a control freak. Actually, a large part of my health anxiety – and anxiety issues in general – revolve around control: I’m terrified of hospitals (and particularly of general anaesthetics) because of the perceived lack of control I’d have inside them, and health anxiety, as I’ve said before, is actually a form of OCD, in that it’s an obsessive compulsion to worry about health issues, or check symptoms or whatever.

But that’s another post, for another day. Or maybe not. For now, suffice it to say that Terry’s most frequently used phrase right now is, “You can’t control EVERYTHING, Amber,” and my most frequently used response is, “But WHHHHYYYY not?”

Another way that this manifests itself, of course, is in my need to have control over my environment: not by obsessively cleaning the house, or developing elaborate rituals around light-switches or whatever, but simply in the sense that I feel happiest, and most relaxed, when everything is neat, tidy, and well organised. To that end, I’ve spent the last few weeks clearing out cupboards and drawers, and making lengthy ‘To Do’ lists for all of the things I need/want done in the house before the baby arrives – and this month, I’ve been turning my attention to the master bedroom.

Now, this bedroom had a mini-facelift earlier in the year, but now we’re looking to take things a little further, without actually changing the overall look of the room, which we still want to keep very light and airy. So, the first thing on our list was a new bed, which you can see  here.

There’s a whole story behind the selection of this bed (Which we finally found at Wayfair, after a lengthy search, and a near-divorce…), but we were mostly motivated by the sheer size of it. Our existing bed is a double, but it’s always felt pretty small to me, and now that I’m rapidly growing in size, I’d like a bit more room – as would Terry, I’m sure. (Also, I finally succumbed to the lure of the pregnancy pillow, and no way would one of those bad boys fit in our current bed, unless one of us – and by “one of us” I mean “Terry” – were to vacate it first…) This bed is a super-king, so it’ll have plenty of room, and, I mean, just think of all the cushions I’ll be able to fit on it! (Sorry, Terry…)

new bed arrives

It’s a really big bed. Which will NOT be remaining in the kitchen, needless to say…

Next up, we also bought a new rug:

Logan diamond print rug

There’s a story about this, too, of course (Isn’t there ALWAYS with us?), which will also be coming soon, but for now let’s just say that that the people at Modern Rugs have the patience of saints, seriously. Seriously.

We got this because this particular corner of the room has been looking rather sad and empty ever since the chair that used to live in the corner was re-located to the living room. We’re going to be replacing it with this little retro-inspired sofa from Furniture Village, which, along with the new rug, will help us create a little “lounge” area in this corner of the room – or that’s the idea, anyway:

Jasper two-seater fabric sofga
As for the rest of the room, well, I  have a few other little items on my wish list, but we’re going to start off with these three, plus a re-paint of the wall the bed sits against, and see where that takes us, first. And after that? I have some big plans for the en-suite… I just need to convince Terry about them…

You’re going to wonder why you didn’t buy a bigger bed sooner. 😉

I had to look up what a super king was, I’ve only heard of a regular king and a California king. Going from a full to a super king is going to feel glorious!!! Also, that little couch is SO ADORABLE!

Your house just looks so stylish. It looks like it could be in a very posh glossy interiors magazine.

Good news! We took Max to hospital this morning, and saw two different surgeons, who agreed there was no need to go ahead with the surgery as his lip is healing really well on its own 😅 He’ll definitely have a scar, unfortunately, but that would’ve been the case whether he’d had the surgery or not, and if it turns out to be worse than anticipated, we’ll have the option to have it corrected under local anaesthetic when he’s older.
I’m still really upset that this happened in the first place, obviously, but so relieved that we don’t have to put him through a general anaesthetic, and just incredibly grateful that it wasn’t anything worse. I know some parents have to deal with much more serious stuff than this, and my heart goes out to you all: it’s been a rough couple of days, and I’m really grateful to everyone who took the time to comment on yesterday’s post - your stories were so comforting when I was panicking yesterday ❤️ (Old photo, obviously: every time Max sees the selfie camera, he thinks it’s going to be one of those filters where you open your mouth and something happens 😂) #pbloggers #mummybloggers #mummybloggersuk #ukmumblog #mumblogsuk #mumblogs #mamablog #ukparentbloggers #parentbloggersuk #ukparentingblog #parentingbloggers #motherhoodblogger #motherhoodblog #ukblogger #ukofficialblogger #happyblogger #mummyblog #bloggerclubuk #instamum

Good news! We took Max...

Totally unrelated photo, but we’ve just spent the morning in Accident & Emergency with Max, who fell on the path outside the house and split his lip open 😥 They tried to stitch it up at A&E, but it was totally impossible with him awake, so they’ve booked him in to have it done under general anaesthetic tomorrow ... Max is absolutely fine: the bleeding stopped quickly, he doesn’t seem to be in pain, and is just his normal, happy little self. I, on the other hand, am a complete wreck: the plastic surgeon he saw today reckons if we don’t have it fixed, his lip will be crooked when it heals, but I’m absolutely *terrified* of the thought of my baby having to have a GA. If you’re a long-time follower, you might know that I have a full-blown phobia of general anaesthetic (I literally had an elective c-section in order to eliminate the possibility of an emergency one, which might have had to be done under GA), so I just can’t get my head to accept that it’s safe and he’ll be fine 😥 Positive stories and advice very welcome: I’m just so terrified, I can’t even imagine how to get through the next 24 hours 😥😥😥

Totally unrelated photo, but we’ve...

#throwbackthursday to last week, when I needed a sunhat and SPF 50 to leave the house, rather than the current raincoat and wellies situation. Can you tell the post-holiday blues are still in full swing over here? 🌧 .

I posted this on Stories over the weekend, but he looked so cute in it I figured it deserved a spot on the grid, too! This is Max all ready for his friend Eleah’s 1st birthday party on Saturday: despite the jetlag and his continuing obsession with doors of all kinds (He had an entire soft play at his disposal, but he mostly just wanted to open and close the gate into it...) he had an absolute ball, and spent the whole drive home shouting, “HAPPY! HAPPY!” Thanks to @thestirlingstyle for a great party 🥳 🎈 🎉 . (Oh, and that’s his hairbrush in his hand - boy likes to look his best 😉)
