Another Bedroom Makeover

You know how they say pregnant women get a “nesting” instinct towards the end of their pregnancies?

I’ve had mine since long before this pregnancy even started.

Like, looooooong before.

If you’ve been reading this blog for any length of time at all, you’ve probably gathered that I can be a little bit of a control freak. Actually, a large part of my health anxiety – and anxiety issues in general – revolve around control: I’m terrified of hospitals (and particularly of general anaesthetics) because of the perceived lack of control I’d have inside them, and health anxiety, as I’ve said before, is actually a form of OCD, in that it’s an obsessive compulsion to worry about health issues, or check symptoms or whatever.

But that’s another post, for another day. Or maybe not. For now, suffice it to say that Terry’s most frequently used phrase right now is, “You can’t control EVERYTHING, Amber,” and my most frequently used response is, “But WHHHHYYYY not?”

Another way that this manifests itself, of course, is in my need to have control over my environment: not by obsessively cleaning the house, or developing elaborate rituals around light-switches or whatever, but simply in the sense that I feel happiest, and most relaxed, when everything is neat, tidy, and well organised. To that end, I’ve spent the last few weeks clearing out cupboards and drawers, and making lengthy ‘To Do’ lists for all of the things I need/want done in the house before the baby arrives – and this month, I’ve been turning my attention to the master bedroom.

Now, this bedroom had a mini-facelift earlier in the year, but now we’re looking to take things a little further, without actually changing the overall look of the room, which we still want to keep very light and airy. So, the first thing on our list was a new bed, which you can see  here.

There’s a whole story behind the selection of this bed (Which we finally found at Wayfair, after a lengthy search, and a near-divorce…), but we were mostly motivated by the sheer size of it. Our existing bed is a double, but it’s always felt pretty small to me, and now that I’m rapidly growing in size, I’d like a bit more room – as would Terry, I’m sure. (Also, I finally succumbed to the lure of the pregnancy pillow, and no way would one of those bad boys fit in our current bed, unless one of us – and by “one of us” I mean “Terry” – were to vacate it first…) This bed is a super-king, so it’ll have plenty of room, and, I mean, just think of all the cushions I’ll be able to fit on it! (Sorry, Terry…)

new bed arrives

It’s a really big bed. Which will NOT be remaining in the kitchen, needless to say…

Next up, we also bought a new rug:

Logan diamond print rug

There’s a story about this, too, of course (Isn’t there ALWAYS with us?), which will also be coming soon, but for now let’s just say that that the people at Modern Rugs have the patience of saints, seriously. Seriously.

We got this because this particular corner of the room has been looking rather sad and empty ever since the chair that used to live in the corner was re-located to the living room. We’re going to be replacing it with this little retro-inspired sofa from Furniture Village, which, along with the new rug, will help us create a little “lounge” area in this corner of the room – or that’s the idea, anyway:

Jasper two-seater fabric sofgaAs for the rest of the room, well, I  have a few other little items on my wish list, but we’re going to start off with these three, plus a re-paint of the wall the bed sits against, and see where that takes us, first. And after that? I have some big plans for the en-suite… I just need to convince Terry about them…

Your house just looks so stylish. It looks like it could be in a very posh glossy interiors magazine.
